View Full Version : Am I the only one noticing this?

Lately I have been noticing that vintage style is coming back in about every aspect that matters to me. People seem to be buying old style shoes, listen to older music, (pre classic rock) driving older cars, buying vinyl... and I'm not saying it's been the same generation all long. It looks like my generation is falling this way too. Not a ton of them, but it keeps building up like a title wave.

I got a card in the mail for what's going on at this race track this weekend and a Rat Ride Rockabilly show is taking place... for the first time. When I would read about these events it's always on the west coast, now it's spreading. Since when are flatheads and Sun Records cool things for anyone near my age? It seems like history is repeating itself and this is a very good thing for me being that I love to play and create old style rock n' roll songs.... now people seem to want it. Kinda like how Rap and Punk became popular, now it's like I can catch the wave and actually have a carrier.

Car culture seems to be exploding too. Think of what is coming out these days and what will follow. The vintage Mustang, Challenger, Camaro... all retro style with huge factory power. More car movies are coming out now than I could ever remember in my lifetime and old ones are being remade as we mentioned here before. Death Race 2000 (now called Death Race) Christine (THEY BETTER NOT PUT NEW MUSIC IN THAT ONE) Speed Racer (actual people....) Bullet and I'm sure more car movies to follow.

Seems like cars and older style are becoming more popular than ever. Has anyone else noticed a change in the past 3 years like this?

Its Deja Vu .... all over again. :D There's an old saying ... "What goes around -- Comes around". There seems to be a cycle to this kind of recurrence.

Let me know when Polyester Leisure Suits are back in style. ;)

Death Race 2000, one of the all-time best movies to see at a drive-in when you're stoned...

"...and Frankenstein earns 200 points by backing over his OWN pit crew!"

"Oh, look...a grenade."
"No, it's a HAND grenade"

AH-HAHAHAHAHAHA...heh

I'm sure David Carradine is turning in his grave for making that movie...

The pendulum swings..... from one fad to another, and back again. I've always liked Sinatra thinking he was, most probably the greatest pop singer of all time, and absolutely loathe RAP. Hopefully, that's one genre that will not be revisited when the pendulum swings back through. It took me a while to realize the genus of Lead Zeppelin, but the very first time I heard CSNY do Judy Blue Eyes, I knew they were a keeper. I was back from the far east and still living with my folks, it was late at night, listening to the radio, and the announcer said, something to the effect "wait till you hear these guys". I sat straight up in bed.

BTW, I think 'ol Will Rodgers is still looking for an honest politician.

He's back already ... as if he ever really left. Too bad you missed the Potomac River Cruise at MV5 --- Glenn Miller's "Moonlight Serenade" got me to dancing a bit.

That's uh, Suite Judy Blues Eyes ... Mike. ;)

And for the folks born after 1975 ... CSNY = Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young.

Being in the West, I always find that term used for where you are quite humourous :)

OK I F-ing hate television, but it was on at work today and I just heard Beyond The Sea by Bobby Darin on a commercial for a violent video game.... it actually flowed pretty well. Nothing liek smooth music and violence sometimes...

I'd rather bring back Joey, Dee Dee and Johnny Ramone along with Buddy Holly, Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran, Ritchie Valens, Roy Orbison, Bobby Darin, Kurt Cobain, Hank Williams, Joe Strummer, Link Wray and others.
