Unfortunately, I think I'm going to be selling my '03 Marauder.

The only other car I've owned was traded in on the Marauder, so I've never actually sold a car myself.

For a niche car like the MM, should I try Ebay or some other car sales web site? Any hints or tips?

Thanks!!

:(

Sad you are selling, but things change.

Ideas and tips.

Try on the board here, low cost, lots of interested people.
Try talking to the Mercury dealer, they may deal if you are buying a new FOMOCO product.

Selling ideas. Clean it up really good, interior, engine, everything. Use lots of Zaino leather cleaner on the interior. Smells great! Take some good pictures so people do not wonder what condition it is in.

Not sure if Craigslist would work for this car. It is generally a local list, but some look outside their city.

We have CARSOUP here in MN. worked okay for me on a past lower cost car.

Cars.com seems to get a lot of listing, typically there are 150+ Marauders on it.

ebay is good, but what would the selling fee be for a $16,000+ car?

try here to start.

Research what you need to do on the web, and do your homework.

Check your insurance for test drives and consider an insured consignment lot.

I ended up selling at a different same brand lot from where I bought it do to hassle time and getting a decent offer.

You can sell yourself for more, but consider how it will be paid for and whether you want to go through all that grief. It is easy to sell a $3000.00 car for cash but harder to sell a $16,000.00 car for cash. I've put 3 grand in my pocket to buy something but I have never carried 16 grand around.

Save your headache and find a local FML dealer that will make you a deal and sell to said dealer. If you owe money on a car it is even harder to sell privately.

Make sure it is legal to say Sold As Is on the bill of sale and say Sold As Is.

$50. Selling a car on Ebay is a flat fee now, no % BS. Ebay it. Marauders go over blue book on ebay usually because you get a large target audience. I was tempted to list mine w/ a reserve to see how much it would go for.

Thanks for the ideas, everyone.

I kind of hate to sell it, but I need something with off-road capability. I can't afford/store two cars.

I'll probably post it here first next week.

Don't forget Autotrader. Skip Carmax - I have never gotten a decent offer from them. If sell it yourself, make sure you provide/obtain a signed bill of sale so you have proof of the transaction. GetID. I don't know about GA, but here in FL the registered owner is liable for all damage done by a car, even if someone else is driving. I once had a guy buy a car from me and fail to transfer title for over six months. Happily no accidents or lawsuits, but a scary possibility. Do not lie about the sales price on the paperwork - DMV's link to databases online and can catch a lie. That would be fraud - if GA charges sales tax like FL does.
