Hi Folks,
I've been looking around for a MM and was wondering if anyone knows about this.
If the car does not come from the factory with the 6 disk changer can you get one from any ford wreck and just plug it in?
I don't know if the wire harness is in place and if stereo head ends are the same etc.
Thanks
Jay

jaywish - Welcome to the site. I don't know the answer to your question, but I sure someone on this board does. You would think the harness is there but knowing FMC they probably deleted it.

Thanks for the welcome.
And you my be right on the FMC harness as I found out the hard way on my 93Marquis which did not come with the premium audio system, (or sufficient wires to do the upgrade)

Thought I'd make another pass on this.
Anybody have the wire diagrams or a marauder without disk changer to take a look?
Thanks

I will look at home. What specifically do you want to see? (I have the whole wiring manual for the car).

hi Marty,
If the car didn't come from ford with a changer, is the complete harness in the car?
Even better to know if the radios are exactly the same but if the wires are there then it will most probably work.

IIRC, the changer is controlled by radio signals, so there isn't a harness, only power. In which case, the head has to control it.

Funny you should mention this as the 300A has no factory trunk Cd, but the 300B does. The wire harness was in the 300a, but it ends with a blank plug that is in the left kick panel. It is the one on the bottom with about 10 tiny wires going in it. These are the signal wires to the radio. The actual power to changer is a 2 plug harness in the trunk near the left tail light. It is taped into the harness so it could be actually along the rear panel below the truck opening, but definately near the left tail light. I bought an after market cd changer and it has the wire harness to plug directly into the front factory harness. I don't know if the power works yet, as I haven't actually got around to putting it in. I saw reproduction cd wire harnesses on E-bay that probably would get it to work along with a factory cd changer. When I get around to the install, I'll let you all know. You can tell it's set up for it by playing a cd and pressing the cd button again. The display flashes "no cddj". Also, with the radio off, press the cell mute button, and the display says "no phone'. Sooo, if I can find a wreked town car with a cell. I bet it would fit...

From everything I can gather, on the MM anyway, the CD changer harness is in place whether a CD changer is actually there or not. You may have to look behind the trunk side panel

Yes, the harness is there regardless of whether the changer was ordered or not.

Thanks,
That really seems to sum it all up.
What a great resource this is.
