-30 to -40? Wow that's cold, my bet is no. I know Vortech has warnings about cold weather starts at anything below +20F, -30 to -40 is alot less than that! The main problem will be with the oiling of the headunit, Vortechs feed off engine oil.

An engine heater or blanket should help but -30 to -40 is pretty extreme.

Bypass the blower in winter or just take it off!!:argue:

Call ProCharger at 913-338-2886 and ask for Shannon....He'll tell you what he knows about ProChargers and cold Wx limitations if any??!!

I have a heated garage so that isn't the problem but when going places you end up parked outside for 4-8 hours and I don't want to get stuck. When it is cold tow truck wait times are also 8-12 hours so even that wouldn't work.

Can I rule out a Reinhart Automotive Supercharger?

I'm not in a position to say for sure, just going off what I've heard and I believe if you search on of those other threads there was a link to an earlier discussion on this in which a Vortech install guide was quoted.

But the best way to know for sure is to contact two good sources:

Vortech
Reinhart

Ask them directly if the blower functions at those temps. That way you get it from the source.

I just saw the thread and to answer your question yes you can run the car with a Vortech in that temp, the car would be very strong due to the very low IAT call me any time I will try and answer all your questions.

Yeah it works in the heated garage but how about parking outdoors at the destination in the cold for 4-8hrs?

This thread was linked in another one of these threads about cold weather S/C's, I'd imagine even after a drive that heats the engine oil, after 4-8hrs in a cold (-30F) parking lot the oil would cool off quite a bit.

Don't take this as a bash to Vortech or anything, I learned it from TV where else, that darn Ice truck show.

-40C is -40F

but -30C is only about -22F

I didn't think it got that cold in Calgary, what with the Chinook winds.

You obviously do not know what a Chinook is.

Without windchill it gets every January sometimes in December too, between -30 and -40C With windchill it can drop to below -55C but windchill does not effect cars so that doesn't matter.

Ironically when the Chinooks start also usually in January it becomes our hotest winter month. Tempertures often go up to +5C (41F). Last year was different we had Chinooks every two weeks and temperatures would dip to -20 or -30 between them, very icy, very snowy and lots of headaches.

A Chinook is a warm wind that comes off the mountains, it is an Indian (First nations not sure which) word meaning Snow Eater.

For some reason my reply to this keeps disappearing. Oh well.

Anyway I will keep looking up the best way to get the performance I'm looking for that I can use year round.

Thank you for all the help.
