Is it just me, or are cars getting uglier these days?
So many models that used to look decent, are being released with new styling and looking horrid. Car makers are also making new models that are just ugly from the get-go.
Some examples....
The new Subaru Impreza/WRX - looks like a kia or something
Honda Element - born ugly
Chevy Colorado - turned ugly when they flipped the lights - headlights go up top, and signals on bottom, should be easy to remember!
08 superduty - see above
"Chrome big-tooth grilles" - so many cars with goofy looking big grin chrome grills, nissan altima and maxima, ford fusion (though it does OK with it)
VW and Audi - big huge grilles with goofy chrome surrounds look stupid, make their cars look goofier than before when the styling was atleast cleaner.
It's like the 70's all over again, another haven for some ugly cars.

Personally, I LOVE the new Ford PSD's. I think they look badass as is, however I still love the older styles, probably because I've seen so many and have been around a lot of them. I for one, am sick of seeing this VDUB crap. It's a 4 banger with a turbo, no matter how many mods you do, it's still a 4 cylinder. Some of my friends are completely obsessed with that stuff! Some are actually learning German just because of it!

Why? All you need to know is "uber"
...unless they need another excuse for losing a race, "hey man, I didn't hear you say "Go" I only know it in German!"

Cars used to all look the same, not that they don't now.
I used to have a 2004 Subaru Legacy sedan. Looked just like a Honda Mercedes BMW and several other cars. I liked it, but it was dead slow.
Ugly, Subaru does this every 3 or so years. The 2002 Bugeyed Impreza, The 2006 Medusa (B9 Tribeca), They even had a commercial where everything the Medusa drove past turned to stone and then faded away as dust. Nothing could have been more appropriate. Except maybe only having dwarves driving it. It is so small inside that I do not fit into any of the 7 seats.

Ugly cars are popular. The uglier the better. Therefore manufacturers have to build them to stay in business. Good looking cars just don't sell.
Just don't ask me why ugly cars are selling so well.

Used to be that every brand/manufacturer tried to get a distinctive look for their cars so they stood out as a Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Plymouth, Buick, Pontiac, etc. ..... Now, it seems that everyone is copying from everyone else and makes and models just all blend into one big amorphous mass. Few cars make an impression anymore. Those that do generally leave a negative impression. I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. So is ugly.
Other than the grill insignia, I can't tell a Nissan from a Toyota from a Honda from a Hyundai. I think the ugliest car on the road is a Porsche Cayenne. Looks like a very pregnant and bloated 911 to me.
Ford's current fascination with the 3-bar chrome grill that they want to put on everything proves that they have run out of ideas and are struggling in the styling department.

+1 on the ugliness of a Subaru, especially the Tribeca. There were a few behind me last friday. I wanted to get away from before parts started coming off of the truck that I was driving.

Part of the problem is new European car regulations. Apparently they get lots of pedestrian injury, so they came out with some new bizarre rules about the front end.
Stuff like (but maybe not exactly):
The top of the hood at the front needs to be so high off the ground (like hip-height).
The contours of the front can't have anything sticking past more than like 4 inches.
The hood has to have like 1.25" of clearance above the highest component in the motor.
There was some other goofy stuff I can't remember.
I think the maker have to comply by like 2008.
Anyways, that means cars sold in the European market are gonna all basically look the same in the front and be ugly to boot. There's not much you can do to pretty them up inside the new regs.

Right. It is true that the new regulations do not help. But that does not imply "ugly". Did you see the new Alfa-Romeo and Maserati coupe ? Ferrari's too, are not that ugly... Outside of these exclusive cars, you should have a look on the new FORD "Mondeo". Not so bad. Means that even FORD, when being inspired (...), can come up with something attractive !

At this rate in the not too distant future there will be one dealership for any vehicle. You would just pick the color, and your choice of Small, Medium, or Large car. The same will probably apply to trucks as well except that it will come in Xtra-large and 2Xtra-large.

I think Mercury is doing well with the designs, like the milan, new sable, and mountaineer. But obviously nothing that would make me walk into the showrooms.
Lincoln should bring back the LS, calling it a "mark ls" and give it some killer styling, features and as well as some cojones for a decent price to put the company back on the map. Same goes for a new Mark VIII.
I think if we were in charge we could turn ford around.

There is of course the ultra cool but very ugly MDI.
It runs on compressed air.
The exhaust makes great air conditioning, they feed it into the passenger compartment.
Unfortunately it looks just hidious. Should sell very well.
here is the pretty one:

Subarus have been ugly for years!..except the recent Legacy GTs.

OH MY GOD!!! Are those the ugliest Ford trucks you've EVER seen!?
They look SO FRIGGIN" STUPID with the upside down headlights!
Looks like the headlights slid down onto the front bumper!:puke:
"Chrome big-tooth grilles" - so many cars with goofy looking big grin chrome grills, nissan altima and maxima, ford fusion (though it does OK with it)
Yep...another stupid looking styling cue! Also, look at that god awful Lincoln Navigator grille! :puke:
VW and Audi - big huge grilles with goofy chrome surrounds look stupid, make
their cars look goofier than before when the styling was atleast cleaner.
Yep! That grille 'extended through the bumper' is ****LY!
Ford is trying that on the Explorers!:puke:
It's like the 70's all over again, another haven for some ugly cars.
You forgot to mention the Dodge NITRO...If only they would all blow up! :puke:
There are SO MANY "Turds on Wheels" these days that I can't stand the constant visual assault!
]+1 on the ugliness of a Subaru[/B], especially the Tribeca. There were a few behind me last friday. I wanted to get away from before parts started coming off of the truck that I was driving.
I'll agree with you on the Tribeca.....:puke:....but I think that my '05 Legacy GT wagon* is one of the SWEETEST looking cars on the road...
and it runs like a cat with turpentine on its' ass!

Personally I think all cars look a like from any era that you look into, but some had more style and class than others. The reason being companies wanna make cars as cheap as they can. We don't have chrome bumpers anymorw we have plastic, we don't have glass headlights anymore we now have plastic. No circle headlights anymore either... it's all gone. I don't think all new cars are ugly, but I really agree that most do look like ugly potatos or electric shavers.
Imports I think are over all better cars as far as what they car capable of. Sure a Mustang can go fast in a sraight line, but you gotta dump money or extra money into it before it can handle a corner like a Euro. I really like the new M6  but still would rather get a new Camaro over a new BMW not because of where comes from, but I just enjoy the style more.
We have the pony cars back now can we please have the Bel Airs or 300B's back too???

I couldn't agree more!
The new Camaro that everyone is getting so excited about DOES look like a Cadillac!
The roof, sides and rear glass evoke memories of the old Camaro but the front end, grille and headlights DO look like a Cadillac!:puke:
IMHO: Ford did an AWESOME job with the new Mustang and Dodge did a SUPER job on the Challenger.

I have seen a badass Black MM rollin' on Route 1 a few times lately... As you can tell, I'm back in town Mike.

I gotta agree, when the new Camaro was rolled out my main gripe was with the front end. I thought being a concept it'd change, but it didn't seem to change much. The aftermarket may help out here a bit but IMO a better front end coulda made that car steal the show a bit more.
