you can raise the idle in drive if you have xcal 2. maybe clean your mass air meter or maybe a vacume leak?? I am sure someone will be able to help you out.

"I didn't realize it had stalled" Alzheimers? Didn't feel it in the brake pedal..or red lights on dash or nothing? Turn off the radio

Less than 500 rpm's...Wow!...That IS low
ALOHA
BTW: Are you using an oiled air filter? If so...clean the MAF...

Should be around 900-1200 rpms I think.
Air filter clogged up. MAF dirty, spark plug(s) fouled, the usual suspects I would think if there's no CEL illuminated.

i was having this problem as well for awhile. what i did was cleaned out the iac valve with carburetor cleaner because it was sticking. whenever you turn the wheel the idle is supposed to raise slightly to compensate for the load you are putting on the motor but since my iac wasnt working properly, it wouldnt do that so it would sometimes die.

That's too high for a stock MM. It should be that high if he has a tune though. 1200 is way too high for an idle though.

My park idle is 850 and my drive idle is 750 thats perfect for me. Check your intake tube, make sure its clamped onto the MAF and throttle body. I had this come lose on me and I had hard starts and a stalling issue.

Yeah thats more of my stock cold start idle rpm now that I notice. Once it is warm and in drive it goes to about 800.

800 seems low for an idle, why is it so low? Our tahoe is about 1200, my brothers 5.0 explorer is about 1000, infact i dont think ive ever been in anything that idles at 800rpm's Even my go karts idle at over 2k but thats entirely different i know.
Why so low? Is it to get that blub blub sound?

Well when you crank it up it shoots up to what like 1400-1500rpm?, then stays around 1100-1200 until it warms up and creeps down, then switching into drive makes it def under or around 900 rpm, I guess it may even depend on the brand of gasoline you're using which can make a bit of a difference.
I wouldn't want an idle at 1200 when warm. Would be too revved for my liking. Reminds me of a dirt bike with the choke on when its warm.

just from personal experience those idles seem a tad on the high side

Well thats how all our GM's are. guess i shoulda said thats with A/C on, with off its about 1k even, but ive never had a car stall, my marauder hasnt yet but it seems like it could at any time. Oddly it doesnt. But it does sound really good ;)

I would want to know WHY your stock idle is so low. Don't just fudge it by bumping up the idle w/ an Xcal.
Also, the stock idle w/ this car is 544 rpms (the LINE on the tach around idle). Unless you are using a calibrated tach or a scan tool, how do you know you are idling below 500 rpms? 544 rpm idle "sounds" low but is normal for this car. I had a flash tune bump the idle up to 750, which is way too high for me, so I bumped it back down to 600. No reason to idle high with the stock cams in this engine, other than maybe if you have underdrive pulleys that reduce alt. output (and you won't ever see me putting underdrives on a street car)
Also
800 seems low for an idle, why is it so low? Our tahoe is about 1200, my brothers 5.0 explorer is about 1000, infact i dont think ive ever been in anything that idles at 800rpm's Even my go karts idle at over 2k but thats entirely different i know. You need to drive more cars then and less go karts. No stock tahoe is supposed to be idling at 1200 rpms. Either something is wrong with it, or the tach is wrong. Most cars on the road idle 500-650 rpms in drive. You don't want to unnecessarily wear on the engine and waste gas at idle. Also EMISSIONS!!!

Those are the symptoms, not "why" you stalled. Sounds like an idle air motor. The idle air motor's job is to not only control the idle speed with the throttle closed, but also to damp sudden snap shut throttle situations like coming up to a light. They do get stuck and then you will have symptoms like you are describing. Definitely don't just bump the idle up with a scanner, you will be going around the problem.
