Madrid in the Evening, photos (DUW)

Hola from Madrid;

It is Saturday morning here already. Have the weekend to myself and will go exploring and then a 10k race on Sunday.

It is a big beautiful, busy city. No place for a Marauder. Parking is non-existant and gas is $8 a gallon.

Took the work DSLR for the evening and shot abut 470 pictures trying to learn some of the settings. Here are a few of them.

All are from the Royal Palace and Plaza de Espana.

Awesome Pics! What's up with that statue that looks like Karl Marx? Is it Francisco Franco or some other Spanish leader from the past? Curiosity, I'd want to know.

Thanks for the props. I thought is was karl marx also, but apparently it is Valdimir Lenin. Here is a second picture of the statue. The torso opened up and what was "at his heart"..

The back of his head also opens. I left it open, maybe a pigeon will spend the night there :eek:

I thought I saw hinges on Lenin in the first photo, but thought to myself...how odd would that be?! Thanks for the second pic!

Glad to see the trip is going well and you are finding some personal time. That camera is SUPER clear. It's great to have a camera with lots of features if you are so inclined to experiment with lighting, exposure and the like.

I thought it was Lenin. Now I know why the strange lines are on the statue.

What's the purpose of the back of the head opening as well? To show his what fills his head?

Thanks for sharing these photos. I'm sure it's a beautiful and enormously entertaining city. Europeans place far more emphasis on enjoying life than we uptight Americans, so ENJOY!!!

Working like a dog during the week, but on vacation on the weekend. Lots of sight seeing yesterday and 10k race this morning.

People are more laid back here, a lot less "type A" (except in driving). I think I must look like a local, a guy driving a car stopped and asked me for directions:lol: Strangely enough I did understand him, but did not know where the place was.


Regarding the camera the Canon Xti rocks. I shot some with the kit lense and then some with a 100mm(?) macro lens. The fixed macro lense also works like a regular fixed (prime) lens. F stop down to 2.8:D

The high res versions of the pictures are pretty good.

What are you shooting with?

I am impressed with most of these photos. You are doing well.

You may however need to adjust to a higher iso, and use a monopod on some of the low light daytime shots. The exposures are too long for the f-stop you are using causing slight blur from movement of the camera.
