I'm not sure yet, if this a good value or not.
The advertising says all you have to do is answer some "yes and no" prompts, which sounds goof proof on one hand, and suggests unchangleable settings on the other hand. This may be a way of improving performance, but within preset limitations.
I also heard that this programmer is a dedicated tool, once you hook it up to a car, it can't be used on any other car, and that may not be a value when compared to other options.
An add-on, or "piggy back" chip can be moved from car to car. Usually adding a chip means opening your ECM, which is tell-tale and a problem in warranty issues. However, the chip can be tailored to suit your needs, and I am sure professional fine tuning will deliver much more power and performance if you have the patience to test and tune.
ECMs can be flashed now, which is 90 percent warranty safe. Once you have done your test and tune, your program can be flashed to the ECM and saved on a floppy disk. You would pay about as much as you would for a chip, and an ECM is not easily moved from car to car, nor is it safe from a dealer re-flash, but it is an option that has a few benefits.
Like I said, I'm not sold on this yet, I would like to see one of us try it out and let us know what's up.

I'm sure I read about this somewhere on the site, but I can't find it.... Has anyone considered getting another ecm and having that flashed with the tuned program? And then keep the stock program on the original ecm? That way you could just swap them when it comes time to go in for service, and no one should be the wiser?
I am sure I am all wet on this, as I am still on a steep learning curve. Any insight appreciated!!

The way the hand-held tuner works is that it first sucks the data out of your computer before adding the tuning. This allows you to restore your factory settings before going in for service. This is also why you cannot take it from car to car. As noted this doesn't require opening the ECM so things look nice an kosher to any techs nosing around. Is it the better way to go, only the track knows.

It would be nice to have a unit that could store the stock settings as well as other performance tunes. Does anyone make something like that for Ford products? A friend of mine has one for his Camaro...

You know its a damn shame we should have to worry about what we can do and can't do to our vehicles in order not to void our warranties... Case in point was today when I visited my dealership and as usual the Service Manager came up to me and shook my hand and starting talking about my MM and if I was still enjoying the thrill of driving it... Oh, course I am! Then he asked me if I was interesting in having them install the Diablo Chip and at that point I almost choaked swallowing my own spit... (since I already have Dennis's package, I kept my mouth shut) and said I'd think about it... Man, how nice it would be for all dealers to have this mod friendly attitude and I honestly can't undestand why they don't... Ya'll come down to Louisiana and enjoy your MM to its fullest like me...........Take Care Sha!
