View Full Version : If you are considering supercharging your car...

Since so many people on here (usually the new members) were wondering if you can still count on the Marauder as a daily driver with forced induction here is my experience: Having my Procharger installed took about one day and I did encounter one issue because of it. My rear end was pretty much shot and it just so happens that it was that way prior to my supercharger install. Changing the gear is pretty much a given for these cars away. I had to upgrade to 4:10 because I wanted more performance and at 110,000 rough miles the rear axel was pretty much done.
Next the car had to be tuned. The tune it comes with is nice, but more power is still left. If you want your car to run at full potential, get it dyno tuned by someone who has experience with these cars before. I have had the unpleasant experience by taking the car to a shop that has never dealed with one of these cars and as a result I wasted about 400 bucks. It is best to shop around for a dyno shop and prices. When I wanted my torque converter installed I was told 450 at one place and 300 at another so again look around.
As far as the car holding up I have had one little problem: One of my air tubes blew out and caused my engine to stall. This will not happen with on overhead blower, just the tubed ones. That was the only problem I have ever had and it was only once. Nothing a common screw driver cannot fix and I did it myself. I was able to get over 300 highway miles on a tank with my Procharger, 4:10 gear and 3500 stall. I have more mods than this, but those are about all that would effect my gas mileage. The car is still very easy to drive in the rain and feels like a normal Marauder until you get on it. It is still as streetable as a stock car.
So if you are thinking if supercharging your Marauder and are hesitant about it because of a fear if dependability, don't worry just go for it. This is only relatiing to light mods. As others have told me the more mods the more of a chance of the car falling apart. By the way my car is running around 11 pounds of boost. Again if you wanna your car blown just live for today and go for it. There is nothing wrong with a 12 second street car. :burnout:

RoadPig One was blown witha VorTech by D R with 60k miles on her ... She now has 77k that have been nothing but Rice crunching, tire shredding, Chevy-Impala-embarassing fun...and is my daily driver. I too say it .... get blown properly and your reliabilty of the MM isnt lost....enhanced Me thinks...

Everyone keeps saying if you want the most out of your blower you need to get a good dyno tune, i have no problems with this but how many shops know how to properly tune a supercharged marauder? All im saying is im in Texas and i really dont want to half-way across the country to get a decent tune.

I'm also cogitating it for next year, depending on the amount of back pay in the next arbitration award.

I do/did not either...but i do think that if you want something done correct you go to the wright people...therefore i want/need to get blown, therfore I will travel..if you consider the cost of catastrofic failure doing properly the first time is not that big of a deal....you get what you pay for and that goes for everything in life.

The Blower cost me about 6 grand and getting all the bugs worked out was around another grand. I am making just over 500hp to to the crank. :burnout:

If you really really really love your MM, you'll drive half way across the country TWICE for that perfect tune. I am lucky enough to have DR only 30 or so miles away.
