Looking to buy my wife a new set of wheels for her car and I found a really good deal on some. The issue I'm having is trying to figure out if the current size tire will fit on the new wheels.

Current tire/wheel
225/60-16 on a 16x6.5

New tire/wheel

??????? on a 16x7

So I need to figure out if a 225/60-16 tire will fit on a 16x7 wheel without any problems.

This is the new wheel I'm looking at, off the Chevy Monte Carlo LSX model

Would be a nice step up from her steel wheel with plastic cover on her 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix.

go to tirerack.com they have size charts that are interactive and you can look up the tire specifcations and see what rims they fit.

225/60-16 on a 7" wide wheel is what is on my Grand Marquis. Factory size and rim.

Thanks, that's what I thought cause when I had got a set of used snow tires on steelies, the front ones were 215/65-16 on a 16x7 so I thought a 225/60 should fit cause my wife's car has new tires all around on it so I didn't want to waste any extra money that I didn't have to. Down the road when the tires need to be replaced I'll go with a 235/55-16 which is what I found out comes stock on the new wheel.

Hey:

This is also a good calculator to just check on diameter and width differences between two tire sizes.

Good luck,

Don't forget the rims need to clear the brake rotors, and the units on MM's may not be friendly with 16" rims.

Oh I know, these are for my wife's 05 Pontiac Grand Prix. I would have already upgrade my brakes to a big brake kit but I'll be driving the car during winter months so I need to keep stock brakes to clear in the 16" CVPI steelies.
