Received this email this morning:
Dear Hotrauder,
Your access to the paid subscription "$50 Contributing Member" is about to expire.
If you have selected a recurring subscription you will be automatically billed for the renewal, else to renew this subscription you must visit http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/payments.php (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/payments.php)
If you do not extend your subscription, access will be removed.
All the best,

What does this mean? Pay up again or get thrown off the web site? Logan must be laughing his ass off. Dennis

My educated guess is that being since you are a "contributing member", and it's an annual contribution that gives you access to things like "members only forum" that the access to those "priveleged" areas will expire and your flags will soon become stars. You won't be going anywhere, you just wont be able to view the rantings and ravings of complete lunitics, oops, I mean..... well thought intelectual dialogue in the members only section. In other words, your annual "contributing member" dues are due. It is a great way to support this site and the costs associated with maintaining it. It may otherwise be free on our end, but there is server space rent, etc.
P.S., I'm thinking it's automatically generated.

Dennis when you contribute to the site you get a one year membership to special site privilege's. After a year it expires. It's a notice to let you know the year is about over, thats all.

Thanks Earin, Zoltan and Rich.
No obligation to make any donation, Dennis.
Dennis - I presume you can suggest a better way to state this email notice about expiring subscriptions. I'm moving this thread to Site Suggestions and changing the title of the thread to better identify the subject. Please post your suggestion for a better worded notice. Also, please note that the notice you received is most likely a default notice that was set up when Logan created this website and subscription function over 5 years ago.
Free Will donations are gratefully accept and are certainly not required. As an acknowledgement of such support, Supporting Members receive double the Gallery and Private Message space, along with access to a Supporting Members forum.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the information. And thank you Mary for all the help with the post. Probably should send them all to you in a PM. I hope this won't have a negative impact on my report card. Dennis .. My suggestion is.. it is your threat letter YOU may want to just touch it up a bit if you expect positive responses from dummies like me "who don't get it."

It's certainly not a threat, Dennis, just a statement of fact. Here's another forum with the exact same wording...
http://www.physicsforums.com/showthread.php?t=121986
unless Logan owned the Physics Forum too, it just confirms my belief that the wording "comes with" the subscription program.
I will be glad to look into changing the reminder notice. I would hope the wording of the reminder wouldn't be a deciding factor in renewing a subscription or not.
YMMV
