Just got a call from my friend Tom who owns the local Ford store, and he took us into the back corner of the shop and showed Barb & me a new Red/white stripes Shelby GT500. It's yours, he said, first choice, let me know if you want it. We're talking ~45K, maybe less.
I can afford it, but do I want it? What would you do? Tough call, right? :D

Mike, If you don't want it, let me know....my brother, Bill is looking to buy a GT500 without paying the usual Dealer 'Rape' charge.
He is dead set on buying one soon!
If I could afford one at List price I would be 'all over that deal!'

You mean like this \/\/\/\/\/\/ one that you were ogling at last January's Washington Auto Show? They had to wipe your drool  off the display car 3 times. I say do it .... unless you are also looking at another Marauder to replace the SB. ;)

Kick him in the nutz for showing it to you. You know that you have to sell your soul to buy it now that you have had eyeball sex with it.

Mike, from what I saw you've got Mustang running in your blood. The new GT500 is a milestone for Mustangs, so at that price it sounds like a great deal and something you'll enjoy quite a bit!
I agree with Charlie, go for it, unless you've got the Marauder itch in which case give me a call, we'll help get you one built up faster than that there GT500. :)
Seriously though, if you are really wanting this car in the "car guy" side of the brain and trying to see if the "practicality" side is noticing, it probably has and is OK with it because as others mentioned if you end up not liking it, it's value will hold well.

I don't fit into the new Mustangs, so I would say no thank you.
I would say yes to a Lightning though.

After riding in my Bosses, even in the same color scheme, I have never been so in love with a car in my life, those cars are incredible. My boss got the same deal, knew a guy, got his for sticker price. He drove it for a little while then sold it and made 10K.

What is the performance value?
Compared to a Cobra w/ a CAI, Tune and Pulley?
If it's a sunday driver would a restored muscle car be more fun?
My friends 1962 Impala SS 409 Dual Quads Muncie 4 spd Black on Black leather no power w/ 89K miles like new was $25K.

OK--Here we have a guy --with the last name Poore-- who says he can afford it--and wants our opinion.....everybody getting this so far...ok.....I tell ya....its a play on our minds....of what were thinking...and he is getting it out of us all right.......lets face it--Mike knows how to tease us..and well too...--so the real question is.....
He is going to get it--he is just in his first phase of telling us......and several are falling for the tease...heck..with that kind of story--I'd do the same thing to all of yall as well....just so I could boast all about it....
so ...what we really want to know and see is ...the pics of you picking the darn thing up.....ok!!!!!!!!!!...

Uh, definately a Shelby over a Cobra. A Cobra with the mods you listed would most likely not be too far behind, but however the resale for an '03/04 Cobra is much less than that of a Shelby.

What ever you do Mike, don't approach this decision the way I do. Just so you know, this would be my thought process;
One Shelby Mustang. Total...45k.
or......
Twenty-nine Bushmaster AR15's with lots of ammo. Total...45k.
One used 1996 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon,(14k)+ trailer and a pair of Jet ski's.(12k) + trip to Las Vegas. Toss in some gambling, Jet Ski time on Lake Havasue, and Lamborghini rental for all your friends (16k). Total...45k.
One used 'driver' condition '67 Corvette (34k) + 48" Plasma screen TV and a restored vintage Wurlitzer Juke box. Total....45k.
112 well used '89 Crown Vics + $200 gas money. Total...45k.
One 9,000 gallon salt water aquarium. Price includes set-up, scuba gear, some live rock, and a net. Total... 45k.
Hire Van Halen to play at the next Kentucky meet + free t-shirts. Total...45k.

Under Tom Doan in the picture gallery you will see I have posted only 1 picture, please go look, because this is one of those shots that after taking a bunch of pics that came out right and it will make all of you run out right now and buy a Shelby, by the way I beat my next door neighbors Shelby, and that race is in here some where. Man, I love driving Greg's Shelby car, he has the Taj garage next door, Many of you saw his Calante convertible and Cyclone at my party's. He just put rack and pinion steering in the drop top, much better, I should have kept my Dart soft top.:mad2:
