Well just heard from my mechanic on the Silverado. Bad fuel pump. Just like I thought. Appearently its a whole fuel pump assy. GM list is 514.99 just for the part. My guy is giving it to me for his cost 348.00

All said and done with labor I'm looking at 700.00 plus the 145.00 for the tow.

Oh well at least its paid for.

The company I used to work for had a 1997 chevy van that had the fuel pump go out while on the highway & I remember that the dealer said you had to replace the tank & fuel pump as a whole assembly!! I thought it was crazy at the time.

Yeah tank stayed just the fuel pump assy. was replaced it seems ok now.

I was so mad when it happened I wanted to trade in the truck, but its back in my good graces now and its paid for. Total damage ws 668.00 plus 145.00 for the tow. 813.00 Total for a bad fuel pump!

they would burn up on my Mom's truck all the time... what I did for her is buy just a normal pump alone instead of the whole basket (a warbro would most likely work, I forget what brand I ended up getting for her). Cut the pump out and put the new pump in it's place and tie strap it in, boom no more buring it up. If you are told that it can't be done call BS
