Have young kids about ready to drive. Want to make a lasting impression on them about SPEED KILLS? Just show them this image.
This was an Acura at one time. 24-year-old local kid killed instantly in a 100 mph impact headon driver side to driver side into another vehicle.
I left the image large so you can see the violence and destruction.

I always say: "I wouldn't be alive right now if it weren't for the vehicles my parents let me drive the first few years after I got my driver's license"
-> 1970 Volkswagen Type II (1600cc flat4/4 speed)....light but very slow
-> 1968 Ford LTD Country Squire wagon (302 V8/C4)....heavy and slow
It's scary to think what I would have done with a light, fast 200+ hp car when I was 16 years old.

Go to www.wreckedexotics.com (http://www.wreckedexotics.com) and see what happens to exotic stuff when it meets inanimate objects.

It's there. I have no idea why you can't see it.

Yes.
Why is that? just curious.
I was a sworn deputy sheriff for almost 3 decades. I see no reason to go back now and change my user name on the numerous forums I visit.

Same here. I wanted a new 1970 Charger R/T. My father refused to insure it on his policy.
Damn good thing he did I suppose. I was only 17 at the time and most certainly would have killed myself in it. :D

That site also has a pretty good section on crashed police cars.
Thank God I never gave them any ammo to publish during my career. :)

My first car was a 58 VW bug with 36 HP. Didn't get my first muscle car (67 GTO) until I got out of hte Marine Corp in 1972. Then became a cop where I learned from seeing numerous fatalities that speed does kill.
People do not realize that they drive a deadly weapon every day. Kids today do not have a clue.
And lasting 30 years as a Deputy Sheriff, you unquestionalbly earn the right to show a badge my friend. I could only last 14 years as a State Trooper and 6 as a reserve.

Oh yes. They were some extremely graphic images, with the body still in the vehicle. Combined with the fact it was a juvenile. I have them on my hard drive somewhere.

I think every driver, especially those in the more expensive insurance bracket of 24 and under, should take an advanced driving course like I just did. Hands-on is the best way to go. Drivers need to make the connection between speed and being able to handle the car when a reaction is needed in an instant. That "what if" needs to be firmly implanted in everyone's brain. It will make the difference between life and death.
Accidents are the cause of 48.5% of deaths for the age group 16-24
43% of First Year Drivers will get into a car accident
37% of Second Year Deivers will get into a car accident
93% of all crashes are Driver Error.

We had a beauty in Chicago last night. someone was driving west bound in the east bound lanes of the Eisenhower Expy. Headon and both cars errupted into flames immediately. All dead in the accident. http://abclocal.go.com/wls/story?section=local&id=5731301

Just horrible, I would have never thought a head on between a bmw and a volvo would result in them bursting into flames.

Sherrif,
Can we assume there were deaths in the other vehicle?
The other driver was in a new Chrysler Pacifica. Both arms broken, both legs broken, and a head unjury. But he is expected to survive after a long recovery.
He was from Florida and visiting friends in Virginia.

Wow, sounds like he is very fortunate to be alive. I hope that his recovery goes well.
