So I need to get my car serviced. I asked to have the tranny fluid/filter done as well as the diff fluid. Here was the reply:

Hi, I received your service request for the 60,000 mile service. Just
> wanted to give you a list of the services that are due at that time.
> 1.Oil change and tire rotation $40
> 2.Transmission Flush $165
> 3.Coolant Flush $125
> 4.Power Steering Flush $88
> 5.Fuel Injection service $135
> 6.Tune up(air filter,fuel
> filter,plugs and pcv valve. $425
> 7.Front end alignment $80

So the tranny service is just the Flush with that machine I found out with no filter included. Part of the 2 things I asked for they don't recommend till 100k. Rotate my tires? I had to fill out a form with make and model.:mad2:

How do the prices sound? I know one of the mechanics there and let him do work on my cars, but not sure how I feel about service work. He wouldn't be allow to do it. They give it to the kids out back I believe.:bigcry:

Can I get away with dropping the pan and changing the filter for the tranny myself. How hard can it be? What about the rest in the lines etc?

I basically wanted to the cooling flushed, tranny flushed w/filter change and diff changed. I would even pop for the power streering fluid flush.

Should I just put the car on stands this weekend and do it all myself?:dunno:

yea do as much yourself for a fraction of the cost. Do each thing one at a time, and take your time. No use in paying shop prices for things you can do in the driveway. Unless its under warrantee!

Sounds like dealership prices. :mad2:Get the parts and fluid and have your guy do it on the side for ca$h. You will get the work done you want, save some money and help him out and you will learn how to do it your self. Then have the shop do a wheel alignment. $1k is alot of money for service.

You don't need to change the trans filter because it has no soft parts like an oil filter. When you drop the pan and service your trans you're only changing approx. 5 or 6 qts. When you flush it you're changing all 13 qts. Go with the flush.

The power steering flush on the other hand is :bs:!

The prices they quoted you are too steep.

I just picked up my marauder from the dealer tonight. I had to get the trans. rebuilt after o/d & reverse went out over the weekend. I figured while it was there I'd have the cooling system flushed since it has 44k miles & to my suprise they said it didn't need to be done. They also tried to get me to have the power steering system flushed but I told them I'll pass.

> 1.Oil change and tire rotation $40 Actually a good deal, if they remember that you can only rotate the tires left-to-right with the stock sizes.
> 2.Transmission Flush $165 Price is way too high
> 3.Coolant Flush $125 See #2
> 4.Power Steering Flush $88 Unnecessary. Get a turkey baster and siphon out the reservoir every few days until the fluid is clear.
> 5.Fuel Injection service $135 Unnecessary. Put a bottle of Techron or Regane in the gas tank 2-3 time a year.
> 6.Tune up(air filter, fuel filter, plugs and pcv valve. $425 Way, WAY, too high. DIY for less than $100.
> 7.Front end alignment $80 Good deal. Do it.

Can I get away with dropping the pan and changing the filter for the tranny myself. How hard can it be? What about the rest in the lines etc? Absolutely. Also install a universal drain plug so future fluid changes are much easier and much less messy...that way, you might do it more often ;) .

Should I just put the car on stands this weekend and do it all myself? Yes

I'd go w/the advice above - add a deep sump pan to the transmision for added fluid capacity and it comes with the handy drain plug!

Thanks guys. I am going to do some of the stuff this weekend. I will shop around for the flush but do the pan and filter come spring time. I also found a coupon for Techron at Murray's today.

Just had an alignment done a couple months ago and will be switching to winter tires in the next few weeks.

Tune up always done at home. :2thumbs:

Again thanks for the info. I thought the flushes sounded expensive.

Oh and Happy Halloween :pumpkin:
