I know that Mercury did not hit sales numbers for the Marauder the first time. Is there any possible return for the Marauder before the Panther platform is discontinued in 2010? A little advertising would have wonders the first time. What is wrong with Ford/ Mercury producing boring vehicles no one wants, other than the Mustang ?

I don't see a return or introduction for any more Mercury muscle cars.... Mercury management has stated that that is not the direction they think they need to go in.....

Nope, not happening
Many have wished, rumors have spread, nothing has happend :(
Besides if there IS a new one that comes with the eaton m112 on top of the 4.6 dohc, im screwed in 2 ways. 1 i cant afford a new car even if i traded mine in and 2, stock MM's would be faster than my stock MM :(
Plus, you'd have the boxy front end, 03-05 GM's look the best hands down.

There are no plans to produce Mercury's behond 2010. The plan is to focus on the Lincoln brand in the future. What there really doing is making Mercury's with Lincoln badges to satisfy all those spoiled people out there who need "luxury status" :puke: . "'you know to keep up with the Jones's"!
Don't panic :eek:and start selling your MM's, because it's a special edition that will always hold it's value pretty well. :)

At least Chevy offers the Impala SS in a 4 door full size performance car. I guess I will have to trade the MM for one........(NEVER). Damn you Ford/Mercury.

What needs to happen is someone like us, or a group of us need to buy the Panther platform.
Complete with a Canadian plant or two.
The whole line has a built in fleet sales market, Taxi, Police and Limo.
Would not require the purchase of the Marauder, Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis, or Towncar names, but really as long as it is the Panther line it could just be called the Panther.
Ford is still in dire straights and may consider selling the Panther line.
The autoworkers union would likely sign on up here and Ford might survive.
So anyone want to go into the Panther business?
The Marauder could be called the Night Panther!
The exclusive black only Marauders the Black Panthers!
Cop car and Taxi lines the 'Leo'pard.
The stretched Limousine the Snow Leopard.
Could keep the 4.6L engine or even use the 4.2L V8's and make them hybrids.
very little R&D needed, 5 star crash ratings and just improve the build quality.
A Hybrid version would be loved by the, Taxi's, Cops and Limo's.
What say you?

This very same idea was proposed by a private company before, in regards to the hugely successful 91-96 Caprice for use in the police fleet market. GM briefly, but not seriously, toyed with the idea. In the end they chose not to sell or grant a license for the molds/tools/dies etc. Remember, the CVPI was a pretty weak stablemate for the Caprice at that time. Only it's superior fuel economy kept it in the running, and now many many new V6's have equal or better ecomomy AND power than the 4.6 SOHC.
I like your idea, but sadly, I don't see it happening. And that's too bad!!!!

Well I think that the fail of the hit of the Marauder was fault of of the same Mercury First the commercial of the marauder driving slowly in a parking lot was not the best way to promote that kind of Panther that is sopposed to be the sport version of the Grand Marquis these people {Mercury} have to make an commercial that shows all the features of this great car european cars you see on the tv ads shows the car running high speeds showing how the suspension works the interiors comfort and features such as radio/sound system and luxury the wheels and more so the responsible for the fall of the Marauder was fault of the same crap minds of the Mercury and this drive me to do a thread for this greatest Panther ever made.

The factory in STAP is full.. CVPI are out to 16 weeks.... Town Car job 1 is in 60 days. All second shift folks have been retired. The plan is to keep it full on one shift and overtime until closedown. Changes and surprises will be few and far between.

That is not a performance car, it is an economy car with a truck motor and some 20" rims.

Perhaps we could make owning a Panther like buying stock. Go public with the Panther line buy purchasing one share for each car. When the car is given up, crashed, totalled, etc... the share is sold back to the line, or to be replaced at a big discount. Car prices depreciate over time, Share prices are market dependant. Panthers could be a market driven car. (Punny)

Don't see the Marauder coming back. I think the car would have really sold if it had been advertised instead of relying on word of mouth. I guess the 94-96 Impala SS sold well on word of mouth but no one heard about the Marauder. If the Marauder came back as is, but with more power options, I'd trade in for a new one. I'd like to see it compete with the Charger/Chrysler 300 RT/SRT market, but I guess that was what this Intercepter was going to do (if it even comes out).

Very doubtful to Absolutely Not. The '03/'04 Marauder was conceived as a limited production from the get go. It was pushed from the bottom up by FLM car guys against the resistance of the beancounters and manager types. The MMs days were numbered before the cars started rolling off the STAP assembly line and before the first MM was even purchased.
Mercury is now "Opening New Doors" and catering to the female segment of the population that (generally speaking) has little to no interest in performance or the Marauder or badazz sinister looking cars. Of course, there are exceptions; but not enough to change marketing directions.

I reread in the pre-introduction interview with Steve Babcock on MCM yesterday.
Babcock tells the interviewer their planning 18000 built .
As most of us know Ford built around 11,000.
Sales started briskly, but fell off to where incentives grew to over $5000.00, as the model year of 2004 came to an end.
Let's face it , They named us "Two Percenters" for a reason.

I guess Mercury means by "Opening new doors" (the same boring cars) they will be closing the Mercury division doors with in a few years due to a lack of sales.

The best chance mercury has at makin another Marauder is to have Ford build the Interceptor concept and Mercury have a variant of its own.
This could be a good idea if they make it noticeably different than the Ford counterpart and base Mercury.

Mercury can be saved bring back the Cylone! Would be selling like hot cakes!
Remember Ford, Mercury was supposed to be a "Junior Lincoln" not a "Upscale Ford")
