I have a 2004 Marauder. I bought it used with 16,000 miles. It has 22,000 now. When I accelerate, I hear a strange ticking/clicking and gurgling noise that gets louder as I go faster coming from the drivers side (It almost sounds like a leak in the exhaust under my feet). I know the noise is coming from under the car or near the fire wall. Also, this noise is inconsistant. Sometimes its there, and other times its not. When I do hear the noise I feel that the car is slower and doest perform as well. Lastly, I have gotten the blue smoke problem that I have been reading about and I do hear a loud ticking noise coming from the driver side fender when Im outside of the car. The biggest thing that bothers me is that the car feels slower when i hear this noise...maybe its just me.
P.S. My 03 Grand Marquis LSE Handling package never does this. So is this just a 32v 4.6 issue or do other 4.6's have this too?

For me the blue smoke went away after about a month.
Did you check to see that the parking brake is fully disengaged?
Read up on Engine knock.
Check your serpentine belt.

This sounds like what happens when low octane gas is used. It will ping and make all sorts of noises. Try a different gas station or some octane boost. Are you are using anything less then 91 octane?

I have the exact same thing. Mine will click and tick from the drivers side. No gurgling. The noise was not consistent. It turned out to be the drivers seat. Put it it park and move around in the drivers seat and see if thats it.

Just some info and responses
Im using Shell 93 octane...so I hope that shouldnt be a prob. I change the oil every 3500 mile actually...I use motorcraft synthetic. I definetly still feel the noise is coming from the exhaust or something. Maybe the CAT as suggested...hopefully nothing more.

I have a similar noise on my 2004 Crown right now. Sounds like something bouncing around in the pipe between the two cats on the passenger side. I'm thinking a welding piece that broke off internally. If I get a moment, I'll pull out o2 sensor and get a magnet down in there. I'm afraid if there is something bouncing around, it may be denting the cat screening.
Try listening where your noise source is with someone pressing the gas.

I have a ticking sound when ever I crush my door panel doing a right hand on ramp turn at speed. I keep wondering if it is going to fall off.
