So I finally have my 89 5.0 LX up and running and I need some insight on a good winter tire for it. I know a Mustang isn't the best winter car but it's going to be driven on the clear dry days but I want a winter tire just in case.

I looked on tirerack.com and their were only two choices for the size I need 225/60-15.

225/60QR15 Bridgestone Blizzak WS-50 Blackwall (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Bridgestone&tireModel=Blizzak+WS-50&partnum=26R5BZWS50&i1_Qty=4&autoMake=Ford&autoModel=Mustang&autoYear=1989&autoModClar=Standard%20Model&vehicleSearch=true)

&
225/60HR15 Dunlop Winter Sport M3 Blackwall (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Dunlop&tireModel=Winter+Sport+M3&partnum=26R5WSM3&i1_Qty=4&autoMake=Ford&autoModel=Mustang&autoYear=1989&autoModClar=Standard%20Model&vehicleSearch=true)

Both have good ratings and $100 (for a set) price difference isn't a factor. I'm leaning more towards the Blizzaks but has anyone used the Dunlops or know if their better? I would assume so since they have a higher speed rating from Q (99mph) for the Blizzaks to a H (130mph) for the Dunlops.

Need to figure something out by tomorrow afternoon so I can place the order and have them on Friday to be mounted.

You 4 or 5 lug?

I'd find a cheap set of rims (easy for a stang) and toss some knobby SUV tires on it...

That being said, taller sidewall and thinner tread is actually better in snow than a wide tread and shorter sidewall. So, you could vary the size a bit, see what else you find.

Whatever you get it won't handle the same as I'm sure you know!

Of the above I would say go Blizzaks of those two, if you can find another size that works look at the Winterforces too.

I've used both tires, and they are both good. The Dunlops are a bit more sport oriented and will perform better if you only see a bit of snow or the roads are clearish and cold. If you get real deep snow, the Blizzaks will work better, and are softer than the others, so will be a bit better on ice...
I'd go with the Dunlops from your description, as long as you know they are winter tires and not a true performance tire (as some people treat the Dunlops!) You will shift belts etc from driving really hard on either...

Mike I have the WinterForce tires on the MM and they work great. Right now I have the 4 lug on the Mustang until sometime next year. The cheap wheels will be the OEM 15" I guess their the 15 hole ones. I have 16" chrome Cobra wheels with P-zeros on them for warm weather.

It's just a tough call because we can either get hardly any snow, dumped on, get tons of freezing rain or a combo of all 3. I think I may go with the Dunlops cause if their is any heavy or fair amount of snow I'll just drive the MM cause it will already have the WinterForce tires on it. I'll figure something out.

Anyone use this tire before 225/60HR15 Bridgestone Potenza G 009 Blackwall (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Bridgestone&tireModel=Potenza+G+009&partnum=26HR5G009&i1_Qty=4&autoMake=Ford&autoModel=Mustang&autoYear=1989&autoModClar=Standard%20Model&vehicleSearch=true) ?

Go for the Dunlop Grasspic's. Best snow tire hands down.

Nokian WR's would be good if you need a dry weather tire that works very good in the snow. It is not a winter tire and not an All Season tire but an all weather tire. Basically a snow tire that works better when it is dry, even better than performance snow tires.

AHHHH Stop giving me all these new tires to research lol. I do like the few reviews I have read up on the Nokian WRs. Just need to find a place that sells them that woke rake me over the coils price wise lol, I'll try and see if my Mustang mechanic can get a hold of some for me.

When I had my 92 Notchback the best winter investment I made for it was a $400 BroncoII 4x4.
