Here's one for the guitar guru's...

About 6 months ago I picked up a used 12-string acoustic at my local Guitar Center. I wasn't there to buy anything (of course), but this was on the wall with a $90 price-tag - yeah, for a 12-string.

It had about 8 rusty strings on it, but all things considered it sounded OK. I bought a new set of strings and the guitar.

When I got it home I restringed it and adjusted the neck to dial it in.

I've played other 12-strings but never owned one, this one seems pretty good, it's got nice sound, action is decent not the best but I would say it feels quite good. - I've felt better, but on pricey guitars - heck I've felt worse on pricey guitars. :)

Anyway...for the price I feel good about what I got, of course.

That being said, it's a brand I hadn't heard of, and Google searches indicate it's no longer made as the only hits I'm getting show up on Vintage guitar sites putting it's age in the 60's or 70's, which I couldn't have even guessed considering the shape it's in (which is pretty good) That being said, the rusty strings and tuners that could use some work could indicate age.

It's a "D'Agostino" with "New York" just under the name.

Model# is: D-65-12

It does have a serial number printed on the label inside, but no date.

I will try to snap some pics but I was curious if anyone has heard of these and what they are. I'd be curious to know of the history of this guitar and also learn more about it's build quality and what materials it's made of.

Here's an ad for sale on Ebay of a d'Agostino electric guitar: http://cgi.ebay.com/1979-RARE-VINTAGE-AD-THE-DAGOSTINO-BENCHMARK-GUITAR_W0QQitemZ260178959531QQ ihZ016QQcategoryZ85852QQssPage NameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

So that's the brand (same logo).

And is this the same d'Agostino?: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r89dd03MDyo

Huh...D'Agostino used to make some really high-end jazz guitars if it's the same company I'm thinking of. But I thought they were gone well before the 70's. I'll do a bit of hunting when I get home, have a very good source book for stuff like this...

Also, how about some pics?

Thanks for the tips guys, I did uncover some info while Googling.

I'll take some pics tonight, I took a long weekend and went out of town to go fishing so I hadn't had much time to look at it since posting. :)

Thanks!

I did learn a bit of information about this maker, from some digging on Google.

Found the most info in this blurb from Google Books: http://books.google.com/books?id=dn_wwsIX_mIC&pg=PA133&dq=d%27agostino+guitars&sig=Un1SNnObYpMEIR2aRL7Hj_HQF2 U

Basically d'Agostino was started by Pat d'Agostino in 1975, and imported guitars from Italy.

Up until 1980 they were made in the US and/or Italy.

After 1980 they were made in Japan (higher end models) and Korea (lower end models)

From what I can tell, the company existed until the early to mid 1990's.

In summary, they are nothing all that special, but it would be nice to know where this model stood on the scale, what materials it's made of, etc.

As for the price, I did well considering that 2-digit price tag.
