Ever wondered what those pesky big blue or red painted dots were on your new tires?

They are indicators of where to position the tire on the rim at the valve stem point.

Found this out, not from tire rack, who didn't have a clue, but from an old time hotrodder parked next to me in the park. He noticed my "dots" were not indexed to the valve stem. He said doing this also helps in balancing the tire.

Thanks there, classic '57 Chevy owner/restorer, Mr. Nick.

Live and learn.

Sweet, thanks Pat. I too also wondered what those were. I DO know they are a PITA to remove!

I KNEW THAT!! Or, at least I did for motorcycle tires. Didn't know they did it on car tires too. Problem with bike tires is that some mfgs use it to denote a light spot, that goes at the valve stem, and for some its a heavy spot to go opposite the valve stem.

Indeed this is what the manufacturer had in mind.

However, those of us fortunate to have a tire shop local to us with the all too cool "road force" balancer, it will detect idiosyncrasies with the internals of the tire, and the rim it is being mounted on.

The dots rarely line up with the valve stems. ;)

I have only seen the RED dots. No blue dots so far on the KDWS BFGs and I am on my 2nd set of fronts and 3rd set of rears. Who has BLUE dots?

Charlie, they're very rare, BFG only made a couple hundred sets with BLUE dots.

There are also some produced with RED dots, but the majority of KDWS BFGs were produced with BLACK dots.;)

Anyone know what the black dots on the MM rims are for? They are on all 4 of my rims, under the clear coat.
