Greetings,
Have had car for 1 week. Love it. Realize that there are a few things I'd like to find to improve it from a pretection standpoint.
Anybody use a fuel filler bib for there MM? I have one for my Vette and am thinking that I need a similar one for the MM since the feul filler door has NO holder for the cap. The purpose of the bib is to protect the paint while fueling and to prevent the gas cap from dangling on the side of the car and scratching the paint.
Has this already been addressed here? Sorry if this has already been hashed and thrashed. I did a search on gas bib, but got the error msg. about searching for less than 4 letter words.
Thanks,
Gordon B.:)

You get a Gold Star for coming up with a new question, pretty sure, anyway (rare these days, but that's OK - we're all learning AND you tried to do a search first). What a great idea!! I hadn't heard of it before. I always pump my own gas and am EXTRA careful (hear that RF????).

MM03MOK,
Thanks for the Gold Star. I'd be happy to share my experiences here based on my attention to detail and how I take care of my other `BABY' -- a '00 Nassau Blue Corvette Coupe that my wife and I show and pamper.
Looks like Mid-America (and Eckler's) has UNlabeled bibs for about $7 or 8. They also have bigger (wider ones) ones with Corvette lettering for about $12. I'm really interested in keeping the paint looking good. My '90 Linc MKVII has a similar gas filler problem in that the cap is tethered, but has no hook on the filler door to place the cap while fueling plus the gas pump rests on the side of the car. just trying to head off trouble before it starts on my car.

I hvae always wondered why this re-fill system on the marauder is so poor? My wife's Highlander has a neat little holder built ino the fuel door to hold the fuel cap. If you find a bib let us know!

BigDogJim,
I'll get hold of something, try it, and post my results. There is work to be done in this area for both a bib as well as a `holder' for the gas cap. Gald this subject has not been covered previously here.

MM03MOK,
Good find! Thanks.
May have to splurge for a pair. The one for my Vette has dreaded rubber rot from fitting tight aroyund the filler neck.
Good time to get a pair. Don't know about the logo or lettering thingy for major bucks.

GREAT idea Gordon! And GREAT find bunny. BMWs that I've had in the past always had one of those. I'm not so concerned with the drips (I've perfected the correct wrist-action) but the cap against the side of the car has always bothered me. I'm ordering one.

Dangling gas cap worry you?
Cut a strip of velcro about 1/8" wide, sticky one side across the cap grip and the matching strip somewhere on the fuel filler door...Done!

SergntMac,
I'll try the velcro thing as soon as my car comes back (tomorrow nite) from the shop. It's getting it roof opened up! Can you say Sunroof? Gots to do what the factory could't/wouldn't/should've!!!
Fortunately, we are well versed in the art of knowing who to have do what to make it the way we want it!!!
Thanks again for the good tip. :coolman: :) :)

Sure beats holding the dangling cap in one hand while pumping gas with the other...

I like Mac's velcro cure for the cap.
Here in Oregon it's illegal to pump your own gas, except at a Commercial card lock. Pump jockeys would never take the time to use the little cap holder on a Highlander. The velcro they might.
"Mrs Marauder", who I think is still a member here, was making fuel bibs specific to the Marauder/Grand Marquis, etc. You could contact her maybe. I don't know if she is still doing it. Hopefully she won't mind me posting that info.

Put a bib on mine shortly after I bought the car. Of course it was too late to keep the paint from being scratched. I'll look when I get home in the morning for the info on where I got it. Works great, but then Mac's idea would be cheaper.....
I just cut the strap that holds the fill cap to the filler neck...can set the fill cap wherever I want. Keeps the fill cap from ruining the paint under the filler door and bonus...IT'S FREE.

This looks like a job for Slowpoke! I like the idea of a club logo.

Actually, nothing needs be done if you merely place the cap INSIDE the fill opening and ON UPPER LEFT of the fill tube.
There is adequate room for the cap and it won't fall down until you retrieve it. Works for me just fine...thank you.
