server busy?

I have been getting a lot of server busy error messages. Is this due to the fact we have so many members or is it a software glitch on my end? Anyone else been getting the same message?:help: :mad2:

Yes. For 3 days. I can get in on .net, but no longer on .com.

I think it has more to do with the weight of the membership...not so much the head-count:lol:

I'm out of the country, but am aware of the message. The reason you're getting the message is the server trying to stay up and serve as many as possible, rather than crash and serve none.

The server's under a heavy load, there was a sudden spike in traffic recently which has been causing an issue. I'm looking into getting an even more powerful server and separating the two sister sites to their own dedicated equipment. There will most likely be a couple growing pains, but I'll do my best to minimize them!!

Never quite expected the volume we're seeing... We're over 5.5 million hits per month with over 800 unique visitors every day to the site...

I would think a spike in traffic wold be a good thing, as far as site recognition. Perhaps not for the poor server crunching all the numbers!

In the bid'ness, it's called "The Slashdot effect". It comes from the site slashdot.org, where when a story is posted, 600,000 nerds worldwide all click on the link at the same time. We've brought large corporation and government servers to their knees!
