View Full Version : Headlight Relay
HELP... I installed JL Audio sub and amps in the Marauder. Sub is 10w7 with 500/1 and 1 farad cap. Other amp is 450/4 with JL Seperates in the front doors and rear deck. Now I have Disco headlights. I need a wiring diagram for a headlight relay. Thanks in advance for the help.

Shouldn't need a farad cap, JL amps are very efficient amps. I had a 300/4 and 500/1 running on 0 gauge wire with a stock alternator and OEM battery on one of my older vehicles and never had any light dimming. With that much power I hope you ran a 2/0 gauge wire to a 4 gauge distribution block.
Everything is install with proper wire guage and correct fusing, but I had the same problem with only a 250/1 and a 12w3v2...just not as bad, I also installed a yellow top Optima (deep cycle) and it did not remedy the situation. I know the Cap was unnecessary, but was added to the system to insure I didnt have the problem I am having. The cap voltage will drop to around 11.2-11.5 on a 50 hz sine wive test tone. Resting voltage is 13.5. Do ya think an additional ground will help? I have already run a 2/0 from the battery to the frame. still would like to do the headlight relay mod just for giggles.

Do you have a ground distribution block in the back for the amps? Did you also upgrade the power charging wire from the alternator to the battery? That's another good way to get some more power, just have to make sure the ground is of equal gage size.
