When your in the 255 - 265 range all you can find are high performance / light truck tires. I use these:
Hankook RH06 in 255/55/18
At $125.00 a pop and they wear like iron.
Got them at www.eastcoasttires.com

These are very quiet with almost no road noise or vibration. Excellent traction even with 460 RWHP ;). A members car that i drove had these on widened rears

Wider? No, taller? Depends if you have T/C, or the ABS could throw a fit.

You can go SAFELY to 255 on OEM Wheels--beyond that I do not recommend it--regardless of who is or who tells you different....even though several owners are doing it as mentioned -----but the word IMO is SAFETY---as for me--got 255 up front --295 on widened wheels on the rear......works for me....good luck

I have never heard of anyone putting 305s on our 8" rims.

 How are they working out for you? Did the higher pressures help with the squish?
What about with wider rims? I was told that we have to look out for our suspension when moving to larger tires. A member over at the crownvic.net forums with a 2000 crown victoria is running 325/50/R15's out back and they don't hit anything because it has a different suspension than us. Would we be able to run 305 tires on 16 inch rims?

What do you guys mean by saying 295 on a widened rim? How do I make my rim more wide?
What do you guys mean by saying 295 on a widened rim? How do I make my rim more wide?
Our stock rims can be widened from 8" to 9.5". There were a couple vendors who would facilitate this service (they had shops do this for them). It can cost as much as $300 per wheel, not including the cost of the wheel. Do a search to find out more information, and better yet, collect the information you find and post it on the Marauder wiki (MyMarauder.com) under the wheels section. Thanks!

295's on 8" rims is dangerouse as hell, your streatching the sidewall way too much, and if you hit a good sized pot hole I'd bet the bead on the tire would let loose! A few years ago I tried puting 245/50/15 on 8" steels, couldn't even get them to bead up....my $0.02

I have heard of people doing this and I would NOT recommend it. 295 is way to wide for stock rims. I'm sure some will disagree and say they do it with no issues but to each his own regardless of that based on design specs and safety specs 295 is too wide for a non-widened OEM Marauder rim.
265 if the upper limit on stock rims, 255 really is as wide as you should go to be within recommended specs.

I agree, 265 may be OK but is pushing it, and even then you won't find much that will come close to OEM height.
255/55/18 is a great alternative rear tire size for OEM wheels.

I put a set of perilli scorpion zero's 255/55/18 on rear double Z block. with stock on the front for now. theres a 1.5 percent difference to the low side for mph,r"per mile. slight rear gear ratio diff. didn't get good reviews from truck owners. so far they grip much much better than G"S. wet traction on wet black top is nice. do get alittle spin but no fish tail from a standing position. 60mph quick lane change very responsive. wet braking nice also.
they grip dry very very nice :)

Excellent traction in the rain.

Hankook Ventus STs. See here (https://www.mymarauder.com/wiki/index.php?title=Tires#Common_C ombinations).

The "Brand" of tire I use are "Nittos" all around---the discussion was about size of tires on (rims) wheels......there are different 'brands' for just about any size out there.......but the Nittos I have are like Iron as well--over 20K on them and hardly showing any wear..........

I have 235/50/18's up front and 255/55/18's KDW's in back. Trying to stay with the KDW's maybe go with Nitto's but what would be the best size up front? It would also be nice to keep the same size all the way around if possible? Would a 245/55/18 be good all the way around?
Your opinions please? Thank you

Do you have traction control on your car (i.e., is it a 2003 300B / 2004 model)? If it does, same-sized tires will likely engage traction control, though it can be disabled via the dash button or via tune. Otherwise, some owners have reported success with same-sized tires on all corners concerning ABS (see here (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=43854)). Several owners run 245 tires in the front, though an aspect ratio of 55 in this size on the front can lead to more understeer (you're adding about 1.3 inches to the overall loaded tire height). Besides more tire options, what are your goals (e.g., better straight-line traction, better handling, etc.)?

This is an old thread, but no worries
255/55 will be approx. 1/2 inch taller and 1/2 inch wider
265/50 (there is no 265/55 that i am aware of) is less than a 1/4 inch shorter and a little over 3/4 inch wider.
If you run factory front 235/50/18 then tractioncontrol ok, can also run 255/45/18 up front and be ok with traction control

265/50/18 is the widest recommended on stock width rear wheels..some have gone to 285/50/18 and some have used 295/45/18.. Tires will really bulge at sidewall and bead and could possibly pop a bead in heavy cornering if too wide a tire is on a narrower rim. Some tire places won't mount them when the minimum rim width is not preent. You'll have to see what Continetnal offers in the tires to see what sizes they carry. The other option is to have your rear rims widened.

The width of the tire has nothing to do with triggering the traction control. The difference between the HEIGHT of the front and rear tires will trigger the traction control. You have to have at least 3% difference between the front and rear tires.... rears have to be 3% taller than the fronts.
This only matters if you have a 2004 with traction control.
