What can I say, I'm on social security so the car is great (for me). My mods cured the "can't get out of it's own way" syndrome. Now I can blast through the quarter mile in the mid 13's.

All in all, my car doesn't qualify as a Turkey any more.

Mercury Marauder (http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/default.aspx?make=Mercury&model=Marauder) (2003)
The Marauder was supposed to be a movie cop car, a bad-ass American muscle sedan in the vein of the wildly successful Chrysler 300 (http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/overview.aspx?year=2007&make=Chrysler&model=300). Three problems: The Marauder looked more Social Security than undercover security. Second, the car was Social Security—an antiquated Grand Marquis (http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/default.aspx?make=Mercury&model=Grand%20Marquis) below its blacked-out body. Third, its 4.6-liter 302-horsepower V8 felt so slow that the only perps you could catch were teenagers on foot.

Here's a POS ^^^^ that I'm gonna throw a beating into!

Apparently, Lawrence Ulrich's research on the topic was rather limited.

1. Why bother to reach back and bash a car that's 5 years old? I suspect Robert wants an MM badly but is just so intimidated by the Marauder's sheer presence.

2. "The Marauder was supposed to be a movie cop car ..." Never hear this before. Could be that he is just making up his own facts.

3. "... a bad-ass American muscle sedan in the vein of the wildly successful Chrysler 300." Didn't the not so bad-ass 300C come out AFTER the Marauder? So who is leading the current surge in muscle car interest.

4. "The Marauder looked more Social Security than undercover security ..." I bought a Marauder specifically because it didn't look like an old man's car.

5. "... its 4.6-liter 302-horsepower V8 felt so slow ..." Obviously a comparison to the Vipers and Porsche 911S's that he is so fond of.

I see only one Turkey in this article .... and it happens to be Larry !!!

He is right they are both faster. They both seat 2 and both costs 2-3 times more.

Why is an econo car that runs the 1/4 the same as the Marauder good performance and a large sedan not?

If Robert Ulrich wrote the article, why is Lawrence Ulrich's info posted? Same guy --- or maybe his brother. :dunno:

The questions should probably be more Prickish than Prickly. ;)

Wait...isn't Robert Ulrich dead? He was the P.I. in the TV show 'Vegas'.

If you look it to the article the car gets 9 out of 10 from its owners. How is that a turkey?:mad2:Yes the car did not sell well but, that was the fault of the marketing department of Mercury. I did not even know the MM existed untill I was talking to someone about S/Cing a towncar.

I guess you have to get used to British humour. He also claimed that Mercedes Nav systems only direct drivers to destinations in Poland (if people didn't see the WWII 'blitzkreig' humour there), and Porsche 911 body engineers are the laziest in the world. Like the others have said, they 'dis just about anything that isn't a Range Rover, Rolls Royce or Aston Martin. ;) And they 'diss those now, because they aren't British owned.

They actually liked the Rousch model 'Stang. It was the way they all should have been from the factory was their opinion.

But they can't understand the function of a Pickup to save their lives. I love that show. Always leaves me laughing.

Doesn't surprise me, I remember him saying he's had nothing but trouble with it. Could it be because Ford watched him bashing all of their products and they decided to give him a dud? I think so. He deserves to drive a Yugo at best.

Ford has an ON STAR type thing over there and it kept setting off the alarm and killing the car etc. Otherwise he loved the car... can't blame anyone but Ford for that

Hey... he's just tellin' his opinion to anyone that will listen.. It's just for entertainment purposes only.. after all, who in their right mind would build their own limos out of the English junk they have, or take some tiny a$$d car the size of an 80s Volk Rabbit and turn it into a space shuttle (can u tell I watch it?)
They dynoed the new GT500 and the older 67 GT350 and neither vehicle put out the hp that Ford claims they had. On top of that, the short dude was the owner of the 67 GT350... that's gotta count for sumthin'?..maybe?

No thats the biggest crock of **** I've ever heard. Every knowledgable car guy knows the factory spec HP ratings are measured at the crank, not rear-wheels. So them bashing on the GT500 for making about 50 horsepower less on the dyno is moronic on their half because thats within the expected 15% mechanical loss.
I'll not watch any more of that show since yes they can't get off the bashing of american cars, and america altogether.

He forgot the poor marketing.

If you had to pay $35,000 for a Marauder, based on it's stock performance it's not that great of a deal.

However, where you can by a low mile used one for half that price and put a supercharger on it, now it is easy to see what makes it outstanding.

The author of the MSN article just didn't know about the other side of the coin.

Well, rather than spending all day bashing FLM marketing and development (...no excuses made or given...) I happen to know "reporters" and/or so called "journalists" are both biased and manipulative in their presentation of "data".

That being the case, you should check out the J.D.Powers site and perform some car comparisons... the "lowly" 2004 Marauder beats out ALL SORTS of vehicles (past AND current) Cadillac CTX, Volvo S80 BMW 7 Series, Acuras in Overall Performance and Design categories etc...

Couple of points....

Since this d0uc8 was desperately doing a reach-around to 1982 (recent memory my @55!) in his rice-induced frenzy (it has to be) he forgot to include his daddy's 1980 Chevy Citation.

This trash is pure personal journalistic opinion rather than reporting any factual rankings - he ignores the high user ratings the Marauder consistantly achieves, and easily found; this is a part of my post on a different thread citing similar MSN article..

...you should check out the J.D.Powers site and perform some car comparisons... the "lowly" 2004 Marauder beats out ALL SORTS of vehicles (past AND current) Cadillac CTX, Volvo S80 BMW 7 Series, Acuras in Overall Performance and Design categories etc...

http://www.jdpower.com/autos/used-ra...er&fromModel=1

Lastly, to the implied question directed to whether his chaps are chafing, or the possible content of his Vouge articles - if he messes around with his name or initials (switches middle for first, etc.) he is most likely driving that Prius - quite possibly in pink... so is it Robert or Lawrence or whaaaaa da ffff...:D
