Good news, it will soon be possible to import cars from the USA into Canada again.

At the end of the summer Canada made a safety ruling that news car must have an updated anti start feature. Manufactures then made the USA sold cars unable to be upgraded, on paper, and thus such a car can not be registered in Canada.

Canadians get ripped off by having to pay around 35% premium for identical cars compared to the USA. In 2007 130,000 new cars were imported by Canadians from the USA.

But the Government is getting ready for an Election and taking enough flack that they are going to reverse that descion mostly and allow cars to be imported new once again.

How much of a difference is there in USA and Canadian prices?

2008 Smart fortwo Pure.

USA $11,500 Canada $15,000. The Canadian one has a radio as standard US price for the radio $245.

Options

AC USA $660 Canada $800.
etc....

Jaguar XJ Super V8.

USA $94,750 Canada $118,000. Same car. (although they will give upto a $12,000 discount up to January 2nd.) Still $11,250 more expensive, January 3rd $23,250 more.

Jaguar XKR Coupe.

USA $86,700 Canada $117,000. Same car again.

BMW 650I Coupe.

USA $75,600 Canada $101,500. Same car.

Audi TT

USA $34,800 Canada $50,600.

Ford Taurus X

USA $26,615 Canada $35,349.

Everyone is about 32% to 35% more expensive in Canada.

Subaru is 46% more.

STi

USA $33,495 Canada $48,995.

WRX 4 door

USA $24,350 Canada $32,995.

Don't come to Canada to buy your next car.

US price was around $35k, CAD was around $47k. At the time, IIRC, the CAD was .80 of 1 USD. That's about $2500 difference. The difference was attributed to 'import fees', to which I laughed as they are built here.

Right now, many US cars cannot be imported, as they are required to have a theft lockout system, which US models do not have to have. (2008 model year). :bs:

But the theft lockout requirement is being relaxed. Too many voters angry at my MP.

Canadian American Dollars are at par, right now.

None of that comes out of this.

The government does get a little bit of sales tax increase but 94% goes straight into Ford Canada's and the stealerships pocket.

Look on the bright side...you could be a kind Saudi newbie expressing interest and cost for MM's and get stereotypical replies.
