I have been driving a Ford F-150 before the marauder.

I traded a year old F-150 4X4 fully loaded on the Merc.

I still have a F-150 as a daily driver:)

Those are what I've owned. I looked for nothing in comparison to the Marauder. I just waited 'till I could find and afford a good one. There was no comparison. Each of the above served a purpose. The Marauder was the car I always wanted.

'67 Camaro (Never Got to Drive), 1990 Chevy Lumina Eurosport, 1989 Lincoln Town Car "Signature Series", 2000 Ford Ranger "4x4 Off-Road"

I had 3,000 Left of the Ranger and 2,000 left of my bike and my dad's dream car (MM) was for sale at Lamoureaux Ford in E. Brookfield MA... I went down and drove by it and said naw and went down to another dealership and looked at rangers... On the way home I drove by the marauder again and decided to stop and take it for a test drive... it was dirty and was scared to see what it looked like clean... I drove home and thought about it and then called the guy and offered well below what they were asking... He took it... The car was sitting on the lot for 3 months and I knew that and told him I am willing to take it off their hands so they took the deal... Then less than a week after owning it the air suspension quit... I wasn't a happy camper.... For the most part I am now!!! I GUESS IT WAS MEANT TO BE!!!!!!!!!!

What other cars did you consider or look at before purchasing the Marauder.

1. Honda Insight --- yeah right  :bop1:
2. 2003-2004 Marauder in black (2 dealers didn't have any black ones)
3. 2004 Marauder in DTR (still wanted a black MM more)
4. 2003 Ford Crown Victoria LX Sport 239HP in black. Dealer didn't have a black one, so I test drove one in Ice Blue. Wasn't impressed and hated the color.

5. 2003 Mercury Marauder in Dark Blue Pearl -- :cloud9: :lovies2:

I was || this close to getting an '03 Cobra, but couldn't swing the payments at the time. Others I looked at:
'02 Lightning
'01 PSD F-250
'02 Camaro SS
'00 Contour SVT
I was looking for an MM, but couldn't find one within reason and I kind of fell on the mine and would not have it any other way.

When I was looking at new cars, I always wanted a Marauder from the day I saw the preliminary release.

I was in Chicago for 12 weeks of training and drove just about everything in the $20,000 to $40,000 price range.

VW - Hated everything, actually made me feel nauseous driving them.

Mazda - a little better than VW, but not much.

Nissan Maxima - Nice car too much $$ for what it was.

Subaru Outback <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comhttp://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/ /><st1:place w:st=<st1:City w:st=" /><st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Sedan</st1:City></st1:place> - A really nice car, ran great, felt pretty good. Driver’s leg room (width) was a little awkward due to center console trim. Almost got it...

Dodge Magnum Hemi - Almost ordered it, as they were going to give me $7,000 for my Jag XJ-12 and the car would have been 20K. I thought there would be a ton of them on the road, and hated the shifter and all the damn shifting 'choices', plus, it was a Dodge....

<st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Toyota</st1:place></st1:City> Avalon - I liked this one a lot too. Pricey, but not bad for what was offered on this 'Flagship' auto.

I always went back to the Marauder, even though my Wife thought I should "grow up". Common sense said to get the Marauder, as it had just as much to offer as any of the other cars with few drawbacks. Plus, the incentives became available JUST as I was ready to buy. With my Ford employee discount and rebates, I was able to get it at a much lower price than any of the other cars I liked. Lower by about $10,000....

So I made up my mind to get the Marauder. Problem was, the dealer had Silver and a Red. So I drove 'em both. The red ran better and felt better, so I took her home....

At signing, I picked up another $1,000 savings from our employee discount, because I was the only one in my Family to buy a Ford that year. BONUS.

I honestly thought I would never be able to get this $37,000 car, but as luck would have it, I did, and at the lower end of what I was willing to spend on a car.

How are those Hemi Magnums holding up anyway?????

When I bought my mrdr I didn't consider any other cars. I knew I had to have one after driving my dad's before he had to sell it. One drive & I was hooked! It still amazes me how much better it rides/handles/drives than my daily driver crown vic lx sport. People ask me why I have two identical cars but they just don't understand. I knew, I just couldn't find it or I missed aquiring it.

The Aston Martin I didn't know about till after someone else had a deposit on it. The Roller I have loved since I first saw one while on Holidays with my Dad and a friend, I was standing by the door to a diner when a light blue (ocean blue i think) single square headlight per side, just floated into the parking lot. It was amazing and I have always wanted one ever since. But after seeing the price tag I knew for 300K I wasn't going to get one. Then while looking for the Legacy Replacement, I found that 80's-90's Rollers are not 300K anymore. They average around 20-30K.

The Subaru place I bought and had service my Subaru is also a Jaguar place. I would wait for service and cruise the used lot looking at the Jaguars. Then I would go into the showroom to wait while trying them all out. Amazing cars. After researching Jaguars and their problems and why they have them I found that some are not worth having and others are. Mercedes and BMW's are very similar in their service requirements and expense. This kind of hooked me on luxury cars.

The Marauder had the performance I wanted and I wanted something like my 86 Mustang, the best car I ever had up to then. I drove it for 17 years on two continents. It was like an extension of my body, I knew it's limits and could hold them right on the edge. Every creak, every shutter was like an extension of my self. It is funny while I do not know my Marauder as well I no longer miss my Mustang either.

The Aston Martin has been a dream since the first Road and Track magazine review of it. Nothing is better than the Lagonda's LED touch pad displayed exotic super luxury car. They say it drives and feels and responds better than the Bentleys. The Maserati Quattroporte Mk3 is a car that I have been longing for since My Dad went on a business trip to NYC back in the early 80's and brought back the brochure I have had for decades. He was telling me how great of a car it was, he stopped by the NYC Maserati dealership while waiting for some Exxon Exec to show up for a meeting.

http://www.motortrend.com/classic/roadtests/c12_0601_luxury_sedan_comparis on

After missing the Lagonda deal, I found but was always too late to finalise a deal on a Bentley or Roller. Bentley is the sportier version of the roller. The Turbo R the sportier version of Bentley. I still may get one, either a Lagonda, they only made 600 and some. Or a Turbo R. Great cars but abysmal MPG.

The Maserati Biturbo I was looking at from a Great but expensive dealership on Vancouver Island. My problem was lack of experience buying a car out of province and it being winter I could not drive it home. It was in excellant shape and had all the features I liked and wanted. Price was great as all Maserati's have great low prices. Twin Turbo oil cooled engine has a history of problems though and I didn't want to be stuck with a lemon. When I was in Highschool my Dad considered and almost got a Ferrari 308GT4 Dino. Silver with red Leather. This Maserati was about as close as I would get to getting something like that again. Except he didn't and I didn't.

Then in September last year just after my Dad's 75 Brithday, He had a major stroke went into a Coma and died. For the five previous years I was his full time care giver. He had a series of little storkes, which we didn't know about and this lead to some mild Dimensia. He didn't want to go to a nursing home and with a nursing home shortage around here, if he did go he would have to be in one place and my Mom in a different one. They didn't want that and he asked if I would take care of him. I said yes, and he progressively got worse and worse. I quit my job after a couple of years to take care of him and lived at "home" since then.

I got my Subie because I needed a car that he could get into the backseat, only had a Firebird and my Mustang before that. It was ok, worked great for Mom and Dad but it was too small for me. Nice and reliable except for the power locks.

Wonderful car to drive in the winter, even though for the first 2 it only snowed 5 days. The rest of the time it was a slug.

Anyway I found a couple month after he passed my Marauder and even though it took 5 months to finally get it I did have a look at a local Black 300B, but for the same price I got my DTR instead. My Dad had a dark Horse principal when it came to cars, not including Italian cars, and I think he would be happy with my choice in the Marauder.

How do you like the freestyle?

Is it good for hauling stuff?

The '06 Freestyle FWD is the wife's daily driver. I like it alot and it drives really well. Took it on a trip to GA in July (2,000 miles) and again in September to NC (1,000 miles) and found it to be very comfortable. Highway MPGs run at 26.6. This Freestyle is "loaded" with Moonroof, Navigation, DVD/Entertainment system, auxilliary climate control and the upgraded safety package.

Car magazines have slammed the 3.0L Duratek as underpowered. Personally, I don't see it that way. Acceleration with the CVT is good (takes awhile to get used to no shifts) and it cruises at 75 MPH with no problem. On the road, it'll jump from 60 to 90 MPH in a heartbeat. It's not a Marauder; but I didn't expect it to be. The newer models for '08 now have a 3.5L in it. Of course, I suspect that it doesn't get the MPGs that ours does.

It is a very versatile vehicle with lots of space when the 2nd and 3rd rows are put in the "down" position. I have had 7 adults in it with no problem although the 3rd row is a bit tight for tall people or those with long legs. I would class it as a station wagon as far as its hauling capacity. It can handle lots of large boxes and stuff. Haven't tried to put a 4x8 sheet of plywood in it but the lift gate certainly looks wide enough and the area to the front seats looks deep enough -- would have to measure it. Consider it a light duty vehicle.

Both the wife and I are very happy with the Freestyle. BTW -- hers is also Dark Blue Pearl to match the Marauder.

The Freestyle is now the Taurus X for 2008. FoMoCo blew the advertising for this vehicle. Now where have we heard that before.

There are several Marauder-Freestyle owners here on the site. Coincidence?? Maybe.

I was looking after a daily driver to replace my QX45.
I wanted an ALFA ROMEO 166 (I had one before) but it was impossible to tag it here.
After, I started considering the LINCOLN LS (the V8 model).
Then I saw the Marauder on the web and I bought one. I had never driven one before receiving it Soon after, I decided to buy a second Mercury (a MGM) that I would use as a daily driver.
