If you still have the factory one it is a glorified light. Does it stay buried at about 65psi? If so do search on "working oil pressure guage" and you should find your answers.

Mercury was worried that people would bring the car in for service if it had a real working oil gauge. When I purchased my Marauder the first thing I said is "what the hell is wrong with the oil gauge? Why is it stuck at 65 psi at idle hot? I had never seen a non working oil pressure gauge. Stupid.

It has a electric sender located next to the oil filter. Wes at Innovative sell the real gauge that includes a new sender. And yes you have to replace both. If you just change the sender, the stock gauge will just sweep very slow and still be inaccurate, if you just change the gauge, it will show the same 65psi at all times.
When cold, the gauge will show 85-100psi. Normal driving when warmed up is around 50-65psi and idle is about 20psi.

I love it, plus you can change the color of the gauge lights. The new gauge has a different face then the stock one so you may wanna swap out the voltage gauge as well to match. Only took me 15-20 minutes to swap them both out.

Cool, the gauge pod pops right out, just grab the back on each side and pull towards you, also make sure the shifter is in 1st.
