Yet another Ford in the family. My daughter wanted an Explorer with leather and moonroof from Santa. No way she was going to get a brand new one with zero hours of driving under her belt. So I bought her a 1999 Explorer Limited "All Wheel Drive' with 47,000 original miles. It is just like new inside and out. The Oasis consisted mostly of heated seat switch problems and a few other cosmetic gripes by the original owner. The folks on the Explorer Forums says these are good for 200,000 miles without any major repairs whatsoever.

I do not like the All Wheel Drive. It's got quite a feel one must get used to. Especially on sharp turns.

As long as it works, you can see a lot of pictures at the link below: he cancelled the auction after I made him an offer.

Nice looking Expo. My mom's '04 has "Auto 4x4" aka AWD. 4x4 HI just locks the front hubs. In snow, you can't really notice a difference.

keep an eye on the ball joints, front bar link, front drive shaft, transfer case, and rear axle stabilizers.

This one simply has All Wheel Drive. No high, no low. All four wheels pull 100% of the time. No dials. No buttons. I never even knew such a thing existed on the Explorers.

I wish it was the normal 4X4 with a 2 High, 4 High, and 4 Low selector.

It at all times feels identical to my F150 when the F150 is in 4 High 4WD. Gonna take a long time to get use to the feel when it's 96 degrees outside this summer. :D

Somebody on the Explorers Forums has already mentioned upgrading to an X-Spec rear sway bar. Suppose to make the vehicle much safer in emergency maneuvers. Is this the same thing as the stabilizers you mention?

Very clean looking truck good luck with it, but it will be thirsty with the AWD (they only came with the 5.0).
The AWD will be better for her, no 4X4 switch to turn in bad weather leaves her nothing to think about.

I had a 99 explorer sport (2door) with the Full time 4x4 with the 4.0L engine. it only had 4x4 auto, 4x4hi and 4x4 low, there was no 2wd setting. I was averaging 14mpg's. Thank god it was a 2 year lease.

Seats were A+ but the ride was horrible. Because of that experience I never looked at owning a truck again. It was fun in the snow though, damn thing never got stuck.

I agree the ride on the '91 Explorer Sport I had did have a better ride that the torsion bar that my ex wifes '98 had. With the '98 I dreaded driving up driveways or entrances to a parking lot, man I used to get sea sick from it rocking back and fourth. Then in '02 it got a much better ride thanks to the coil overs in front and independent rear suspension.

Before my Mom's '04, she had a '99 XLS 4.0 sohc and 2wd/4h/4l and that sucked gas worse than her 4.6l now.
