Just purchased and installed a K&N Cold Air Intake on my MM... Very quick and easy install and it sounds great.... They say it gets you 17+ RWHP... I dunno about all that, but I definitely noticed a difference... AND I LOVE THE SOUND IT MAKES WHEN I ROMP ON IT!!! She can breath better now

Clean your engine bay! I've driven a stock MM with the K&N, and then mine with the JLT (when it was stock) and I gotta say, the JLT seems to make the car a bit quicker. To each his own though.:flamer:

Yes Rich, they do suck lots of air. ;) But forced induction is better! Bwahaha!

I'm lovin' my JLT. Thanks again Santa!
I can't wait to put the BFGs back on so I can really feel if there's a difference. These 70s spin too easy. :D

I'm undecided between the K&N and the JLT. Wish someone tested besides a butt-meter.

This test would yield basically nothing.

I'd say they're even.

Just depends on which product you think looks better.

Given the similar performance, I'd say buy the JLT plus one additional toy, for the same cost as the K&N. Maybe JLT's PCV oil filter thingy. or a progard rear skid plate. or an outer sock thingy for the K&N (pre-filter). or a ...

oops. sorry. I do like the K&N FIPK's. I'm just a cheap bastid. my bad.

Trust me. JLT all the way...

1) Bigger filter
2) Louder growl
3) Better flow
4) less money
5) sold by 2 different site vendors
6) WAAAAYYYY better support from JLT. (vs NONE from K&N)
7) JLT is more HONEST about gains.

Forget the dayum heat shield. it doesn't do crap anyways.. for either one.

Gains are similar (pretty much) just in different parts of the power band.

Now, get a tune!. You can thank me later!:D
My take on the difference between the two.
JLT will flow more air, due to it's larger diameter.
I did not notice a filter size difference between the two.

The K&N looks more OEM than the JLT.
The JLT is not supported on the filter end and the thicker hood liners can't clear the top boot without chaffing a hole.
Their are shorter hood liner fasteners available for us that have the fatties.
The "Heat shield" with the K&N is a sincere advantage in hot weather.
It appears do a good job at sealing off the engine compartment heat, from the in coming air.
I got Ten RWHP & more torque, over the whole curve, from the JLT (N/A).
I feel the seat o pants meter is the best method for deciding on any mods.
I put the OEM air box back on , cause it's very loud with the Trilogy.

8) the sound coming from under your hood will scare the crap out of ricers AND their puny 1.x L engines.

I did not notice a filter size difference between the two.

The JLT is 9" long and the K&N is 6" long.

The filter is only 7.5".

I don't count the 1" mounting flange. http://www.knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?Prod=RF-1041

So, 6.5" I stand corrected. Sorry to gyp you out of that 1/2". It must REALLY MATTER!!! I mean to the filter...

I have both in my garage. The S&B filter that comes with JLT is 9" without the flange.

Bottom line... The JLT sucks more.

Yeah, we often think things are much larger than 6 inches.... Not true.

I was just yanking your filter... I mean chain!!!! They do originally come with this filter:
http://www.knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?Prod=RF-1041

Plus the S&B has an inside cone on the end where the K&N is closed.

It's not the size of the filter that counts, it's how good your blower is

How does a CAI make the air cold?

arejayesss
01-08-2008, 05:29 PM
How does a CAI make the air cold?

'Cold' is a relative term used to describe the less hot air taken in due to the fact that the airbox is no longer closing off the air supply. Also the heat shield, if applicable, helps 'shield' the hot air coming off the engine from getting sucked in.

it makes a 17 RWHP difference?

Bradley G
01-09-2008, 05:51 AM
No not exactly, more like ten,
At least in my experience.
it makes a 17 RWHP difference?

GreekGod

it makes a 17 RWHP difference?

That would be peak hp @ wide open throttle, with standard air temp & air pressure, & on a chassis dyno, only. Real world results would vary with air temperature, throttle position, & speed of vehicle.

I bought my K&N simply for aesthetic purposes...it just looks way better. I didn't like the look of the JLT, and still don't. That was my only deciding factor.

Does it make any difference if it is cold outside?

Raudermaster
01-09-2008, 09:27 PM
It would benefit you more since it would be sucking in cold air.
