I did not see a stereo/accessory forum, so I posted here.

Does anybody here use a radar detector? It seems an obvious accessory to a performance car. Not that I would use it as a speeding accessory, it is just good to be aware of ones surroundings.

Personally, I use the Valentine 1 with a concealed display (https://store.valentine1.com/store/products/20110.htm). This allows placement of the detector unit receiver at the windshield above the rearview mirror (most correct for radio signal reception) while allowing me to look at convenient location on the dashboard for information that does not require taking my eyes off the road.

I'm not too excited about cutting a hole in the dash of a collectible car like the Marauder. I am considering velcro-ing the display above the steering column to the right of the hazard flasher switch, and then running the cord back into the dash and fusebox from there.

Does anybody here have any mounting suggestions that might be better than this? I am interested in near line-of-sight, hence the location near the instrument cluster. Also, it is better if it is not that visible from outside the car.

Lastly, I will have to run a cord up to the rearview mirror for the detector itself. I had planned on running up the B-pillar by removing the cover, and then tucking the cord in between the front edge of the headliner and the roof. Any comments or experiences on this wire routing? How is the B-pillar cover removed? What about the kick-panel ahead of the drivers door, I assume I'll have to pull this also?

Thanks in advance,

Zack

Well, your sig states the MM is Stock, so I wouldnt worry much about it being able to get out of its own way

I have the V1, as well as many other members. Love it. I do not use the remote display but I do have mine hard-wired into the car. I used the adapter that came with the unit and connected it to switched 12v at the gauge panel. Ran the wire from there, under the dash on the passenger side, inside the A-pillar cover (I assume you meant A-pillar instead of B-pillar) and tucked it under the edge of the headliner over to the V1. The A-pillar cover just snaps off as well as the kick panel. Push-pins hold the cover panel in place for the underside of the dash. Kick panel only has to be removed so you can fish the wire up to the A-pillar.

I don't have the remote display but I have the Passport 8500 X50 with the directwire smart cord.

People say higher is better, honestly it doesn't matter, if the unit is good then it will pick up the signal regardless of where it's at. I've had one just sitting in my glove box before and it went off, sure enough around a blind turn was a speed trap.

Center of dash just above wipers.

Remote display? Didn't want to mount it with the bright azz blue LED shining in my face. At night it works well because it lights up that area and can see when the alert pops up cause the color changes.

Ran the wire across the front part of the dash with it tucked down, down the A-pillar, tapped into IGN source and then up behind the Autometer gauges.
