View Full Version : Ford re-recalling 225,000 vehicles Wiring harness repair needs to be re-done to fix f

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Ford Motor Company is recalling 225,000 vehicles for a second time. The cars, trucks and SUVs are among 9.5 million vehicles that have been recalled since 1999 to fix a faulty cruise control switch.
The automaker replaced wiring harnesses to fix a potential defect in an automatic cruise control switch. The original defect caused some vehicles to catch fire even when parked.
In the 225,000 vehicles that are going to be recalled again, Ford said, the new wiring harnesses, themselves, need to be replaced.
Ford (F (http://money.cnn.com/quote/quote.html?symb=F&source=story_quote_link), Fortune 500 (http://money.cnn.com/magazines/fortune/fortune500/2007/snapshots/529.html?source=story_f500_lin k)) sent a letter to dealers recently informing them that it intended to notify the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of the need for a new recall.
The company will begin notifying owners of affected vehicles in early February, said Ford spokesman Wes Sherwood. They include the following models:

1992-2003 Econoline (Gasoline engines only)
1992-98 Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis
1993 Bronco
1995-97 F-series stripped chassis (Gasoline engines only)
1993-95 Taurus SHO 1992-95 Town Car
1993 F series (Gasoline engines only)

Ford has had electrical problems for years, Practically every Mustang during the 80's caught fire on the steering column. Some burnt up, some survived and where fixed, mine survived and was fixed.

Got rid of my 1995 E150 Econoline van about 6 months before the initial recall went out. :D Had that van for 10-11 years without any problem with the cruise control switch or the wiring harness.

Parents have a '97 Crown Vic, looks like they'll be bringing it in again. Wouldn't be so annoying except that you'd *think* they would have fixed it right the FIRST time!

My F-150 is still waiting to complete the first
recall now it might be in the second as well??
That would make 4 in total.. Strange how none
of the recalled parts ever caused me any problems..!?

Got rid of my 1995 E150 Econoline van about 6 months before the initial recall went out. :D Had that van for 10-11 years without any problem with the cruise control switch or the wiring harness.

By far the majority never did have problems.

Did it need 'fixing' in the first place? Did they ever have a problem with it?

By far the majority never did have problems.
That van did have a problem with left rear turns signals though. I think I replaced the left bulb 6-7 times while I had it. Can only remember replacing the right bulb once. The left rear socket appeared to be "scorched". I have had similar problems with the left rear on Fords --- but so-far-so-good on the MM. :D

The parts for the extended recall, the harness with the built in fuse, has been on backorder since September for my Panthers with a new promise date of March (this year I hope)... So everybody on recall should have gone in to get the cruise shut off and then the dealer will call ya when the new harness, of which, of course, there are many variations.

Here is the FORD URL to check to see if your FOMOCO vehicle has any recalls active against it. You just need to select your make of FORD vehicle; such as MERCURY, and then type in your VIN.
