A local Trilogy car in Northern VA destroyed his motor last week. It's my understanding the he will be removing the Trilogy setup and returning to stock.
Chris will be installing the used unit because he has the expertise in the process. I don't have the complete price yet, but it will include installation to a local member.

I'll take it if he's willing to ship to Oregon, and can you provide details like unit number/miles etc? I know I'm not "local", but I'm up for the purchase...what's the installation charge? ...you have a PM!

Sherman explained to me that Randy ( The original installer of the kit) was working out some tuning issues with the owner. I believe it had something to do with transmission shift points. As they were driving down interstate 66 Randy noticed a mild ping in the engine. The owner of the car decide to hammer the car while in overdrive. Thus down shifting from forth to second gear. Soon after that a rod shoot through the block. The end.

Breadfan and I have noticed pinging in the Trilogy setup using Lidio's tune since using gas with a ethanol mix. We are now running a 91 octane tune which seemed to resolve the problem.

It could be the one Brian! There will never be a lot of used kits around.

I would have to refinance my mortgage for it, but it would be worthwhile.

OUCH!.....:(

Sorry to hear about the engine failure.
Is it a CAM member's ride?
Are they going to buy a used 4.6 DOHC?(I'm assuming that the OEM block is junk now.)

Any time you hear pinging that is the signal to remove your foot from the gas pedal, this holds true for a N/A car as well as a S/C car, a stock engine just will not take heavy detonation, if you are hearing spark knock it needs to be addressed, and you need to stay out of WOT, till the cars AF can be checked on a dyno, and or the tune looked at from whom ever you, bought the tune from or who ever tuned the car, each person must assume some responsibility by being able to recognize that the car is pinging, and get out of WOT, even a perfectly tuned car can ping depending on the gas that was put in it, normally I pull 3/5 degrees timing out of my car when I drive it every day, when I take it to the track where I know I have the good gas I then add it back and then some.

That's too bad.

I strongly believe there is something up with the quality of gas in this area. I switch to the 91 octane tune just to be save, in Hagerstown for MV5 I got a bad tank from Exxon and the car just didn't feel right, no one else probably would've noticed but to me it wasn't quite right. Next tank it was better, but with winter coming up I decided to play safe at the 91 tune for daily driving, the thing is still wicked fast on that tune anyway!

Just curious, does he only want to sell to members in the area to avoid shippping? Or just taking care of local members? Either way, I understand.

I'm in St. Louis but I'd be interested in this kit if he's willing to ship it.

Just curious--having lived before in Manassas area years ago--- several have mentioned in the past about using 91 octane there---my questions is--isn't ther 93 octane available as well there in N. Va.?...just curious.......thanks--Tom

Do I qualify for this, as I made the Halloween event at Hooters a year and a half ago? That was a fun day for me.....

Sorry to hear you lost the engine.

I can be down next Saturday for the long weekend to get it done.........

I'll tell you one thing for sure. The Ehtonol is in high concentration this year. I had to detune two degrees timing and richen the mix by 15%. I can even smell the ethonol in the exhaust up here, very sweet smelling. And that is with 93 rated fuel from SUNOCO. ??? No pinging now, and car is running well enough for winter use.

What a drag.

I was unhappy with the gas I got from my local Sunoco. There were lots of Gas talk on a few forums during this time actually, so I think it was widespread. There have been suggestions of stickign with "top tier" gas companies such as Shell and Exxon/Mobile, but honestly it's just so hard to tell...

In N. Va we have premium rated at "93 (minimum octane rating)" on the pumps.

Still with hi perf. cars it's not abnormal to get a bit worried about the quality sometimes, how are the station managers doing, is there any theivery at the pumps going on (well more than usual) in the sense of putting 91 in instead of 93, etc.

At anyrate, without breaking into a big gas thread, I also wonder if the trans gave way on that car during the 4-2 downshift causing a spike in engine RPM past redline.

after Katrina the gas went bad, any brand tried them all.

Chevron ended up being the first and possibly only to go back to pre Katrina.

I sure everyone wants more details. When Randy comes home next week I will try to get pictures and more information. The plan is to remove and install the replacement motor. The Trilogy parts will be inspected at the end of the process. The entire process will take some time.
