As I was getting my car tuned by a popular southern tuner, I was advised emphatically not to use any gas with Techron for superchargers. The reason was stated, but I've since forgotten.
Any southern guys remember why?
Seems like Chevron is the only source for good reliable gas around me. I've tried the several Sunoco's, Shells and Hess. The only reliable Shell gas is out of the way and so is the BP. I'll go out of the way if I have to , but there are several hign-volume Chevron stations very conveniently located.
Anyone remember why not Techron?

Uh....What the heck is "Techron" Rich???
Sounds like a snappy trade name for more gas to me!!:shake:
I use Shell exclusively since their credit card gives me a 5% rebate on all Shell gas purchases!! Been using it 3+ years and never a single ping!!:bows:

Not sure if there is a problem. I had to first look up what "Techron" is -- It is a highly regarded fuel additive that both BMW and Mercedes recommend for removing deposits on valves. I can't imagine what kind of damage it could do. My bet is that it isn't hurting anything, but who knows? Strange things can happen in assisted-intake engines.

I use a large bottle of Chevron Techron, sized for a 20 gallon gas tank,in the gas tank every oil change and have done so with my Blue Oval cars and trucks for years without any negative issues and it does seem to keep the injectors and fuel system clean.
What issues it could possibly have with supercharged cars is beyond me.
Try finding Chevron's website online, they should have a place to ask technical questions. It would be interesting to see what they have to say as well as to why those guys advise not using Chevron with Techron or Techron additive in S/C cars.

Some gas's have a Higher Sulfer content than others. It could have something to do with that.

Shell had a batch of "Bad Gas" with high sulphur in Florida in 2004 I think?? It disabled a bunch of Ford fuel level sending units which I think were replaced by Shell!!
Techron is probably just a trade name for cleaners (detergents) used in Chevron's fuel and injector cleaner.....
I cannot see where it would cause harm to a blower engine but I've been wrong before.........just not lately!!:D:rolleyes:

I was one of the unfortunate one to use that crap, :mad2:and yes it too out my sending unit in my TA. Shell did offer to repair it, to the tune of $300 but at the time to replace my sending unit would have cost $500. That was 1 of the factors that drove me to the MM:beer:. Thanks Shell, for nothing. As you can take it I don't use Shell unless I'm totally desperate:nono:.

Techron is Chevron's brand of fuel system cleaner that is not only sold in bottles at auto parts stores, but is also incorporated into their gasoline. It is very highly regarded by the knowledgeable members of BITOG and is one of the few "additives", along with Gumout's Regane and Valvoline's SynPower that actually works as claimed (Seafoam is included here, too).
Rich, unless your friends were referring to using Techron in a supercharged car that uses a carburetor or a throttle-body fuel injection system, where the fuel and air BOTH go through the blower, I cannot imagine any reason why you shouldn't use it in a modern car with multi-port fuel injection (like ours)... :dunno:

Not sure if it's nationwide, but Texaco stations also use Techron in my area.

Thanx guys. I am quite aware of what a Techron is and have used it in Chevron, Texaco (which I liked very much NA) and in the bottle.
With so much info fling around, I do what I can to understand and de-bunk what I hear. If I can't de-bunk it, I research to confirm and add it to the pile.
I couldn't remember why he said so and still can't. I have avoided it since the tune. I have a tank in now cuz I been having pinging issues. I'm hoping it;ll clean things up and am thinking hard about a Seafoam treatment this weekend although THAT scares the hell out of me, too!

Haven't done it to The Blackbird as I've owned it since new and know that it's been kept clean. I plan on doing it to Phoebe in the spring.

Thanx. My car had 5000 on it when I got it and I've tried to do everything right ever since. I guess if it's safe, it couldn't hurt....

Try Lucas Top End Tune.
I used it twice and each time the pinging stopped.

YEs, I don't know if it was coincidence or the Lucas.
I do know the Lucas cannot hurt.

Ford actually has a SSM on using techron fuel to clean up high sulfer fuel deposits on the fuel senders...
