I followed some good advice on the site from some of you and pulled the IAC idle air controller(?) found it to be dirty, cleaned it with some spray and presto! new car. Also pulled the NGK tr5 plugs and put in OEM plugs. Wow
She goes like crazy now.
I still have a bog at the very lowest idle when I rev the engine. Cant figure that one out. New CAI coming from Dennis maybe that will fix it.
In the 70s I would have suspected the vacuum advance.

What was your problem w/ the NGK plugs? I have stock plugs and will keep them because I don't like swapping plugs "just because" people think it will help on a stock engine. But I'm curious to hear your story

original plugs still in it at 35000 miles I thought I should change them. I learned on this site that SC'd cars use ngk tr6 the rest of us were tr5... the hotter of the 2. the tr5s ran ok at first. then the weather got colder, the actual running temp of the car decreased slightly. then she started coughing and skipping. so i cleaned that iac gismo, bought brand new oem plugs and took her out. the tires broke loose at 50 mph when it shifted!!! I am happy.
I will put those ngks back in when it warms up. I am curious. Plus changing plugs on this car is so easy. It will make a good experiment.

That sounds very suspect that just changing plugs caused a problem with the weather changing... huh

I've been running NGK TR6IX plugs (was told they are 1 stage colder) since April of 2007 and have 20,115 miles (god I drive too much) on that set so far and pulled them the other week ago and looked good so I stuck them back in.
