So, I'm in the showroom today down at our local Ford Dealership, take notice to a Blue Shelby Mustang being wiped down by a younger employee. I had just gotten done scanning quickly over the window sticker which first ends with about $47K total, but another box is written in black sharpi stating $67K total, says something like "Specialty Mark-up", so, I asked the youngster who was wiping it down what the hell was the $20K being added on for? I also made mention that $20K for a guys signature was a joke in my book. He just smiled at me, kept on wiping it down. I'm most certain that he agreed with me, but was'nt allowed to say either way is all. Sure, 500 h.p right out of the box is great, but I'll have my Marauder anyday over one of these. Even one of the top dog of Mustangs, like the Shelby G.T. 500, honestly does'nt make my heart skip a beat like the Marauder does everytime I take a look out in my garage.
Cheers!!!

That's a bit high to me, maybe it was signed or something and they thought it was worth more? :dunno:

Thats exactly how i feel.
Mark ups or whatever the dealers call them are a marketing strategy to maximize profits on rare or limited production POPULAR automobiles.
The new Dodge Challenger is marked up quite a bit. The new chebby Camero will prolly be marked up as well.
I guess our Marauder's mark up was in the outrageous base price of 37K.
Is it too early to see if these cars hold the're marked up resale value?

Dealers say these mark ups are because of 'demand' on a low production car.
If demand is so great, the cars should be sold almost instantly, not sitting around for weeks and months.
Shelby GTs MSRP is already marked up enough as it is. It really is just a Shelby badged Mustang GT with a lot of FRPP packages added.
Mark ups on GT500s is becoming a thing of the past. If you look you will find them at MSRP.
One local dealer's mark up on GT 500 is $4775.
Apparently they built over 10,000 '07 GT500s. That's a fairly large production.
A check of Galpin Ford of CA web site recently showed 35 '08 GT500s. Hard to claim limited when you have that many on hand.

The differences are the FMS suspension, FMS Intake, 3.55 gear ratio, Short throw shift, riveted on hood scoop ,tune, and a dash plaque.
So a little under $3000 you can transform your base GT to the same performance of the over priced Shelby GT. :shake:

I had the opportunity to buy a Shelby GT 500 at sticker ....and passed. It's a sensational car & all; but we've already got one garage queen, and if we had the money to keep another, it would have been a Ford GT, which I was also offered for sticker price. Why, you ask, didn't I buy them and sell at a profit? Simply because we're not in the car business, and it would have broken a trusting relationship with a dealer/friend. At the dealer's request I did pass the info about the Shelby along to you guys, but there was no interest, except for Joe's brother; but it was the wrong color. :)

Several Honda Dealers did the same thing in the 1980's. One who owns a NASCAR team was convicted of bribery.
I asked a Honda Dealer if I could tak a pic of one on the show room floor and they said yes.
It was a Polaroid camera and I zoomed in on their bogus sticker w/ the mark up.
When I went to leave the salesmen stood in front of me demanding the pic. I told him the pic was mine and I had the right to take it. I told him I was going to leave in a don't mess w/ me tone. He stepped aside.
He followed me out and wrote down my lic plate. I mailed the pic to Honda NA.
That same dealer lost it's Ford franchise for being crooks. "New Owners" had to buy it to keep Ford. Eventually the same thing happened again and a friend bought it. An employee was a son-in-law of a competing Ford dealer owner. My friend fired him.
These 2 owners were at a charity golf tournament the father-in-law had his two buddies hold my friend down while he pummeled my friend.
I told my friend he pummeled you becuse now he has to hire his no good son-in-law!

Supply, and Demand!!!!!!!!!!!!
If a car sits for months with a mark up it's a decent sign the demand isn't there.
In the case of the 2008 Challenger Chrysler announced there would be a limited run of 5000. Each dealer was to get two to sell. Those sold out fast. THEN Chrysler announced they were increasing the run by another 5000. Those haven't all sold last I heard.
So much for low special production.

Its suppy and demand true, but it is also what killed the 04 GTO.

Back in 03, The mitsubishi dealer where I bought my eclipse had the new Evo's marked up $5000. The Dealer said that they had to do this because of Fast n Furious 2 movie that it was in.
It was fun abusing the crap out of the evo when I test drove it. Sales guy was pissed.
