Need advise about Winter driving tires here in Michigan. Eventhough Winter is few months away but right now is probably the best time to get the best values on winter tires. I've seen few of you mentioned that you've used a different setup for the Winter time to preserve stock rims and tires. (AND I DON'T MEAN TEXAS OR FLORIDA WINTERS EITHER) Real Snowy Winters. How are everyone doing it, what kind of tires and rims? I like the sound of using Ford CVPI rims and tires in the winter but is it okay to run all 4 wheels the same size? Please Advise!

DetGeno - Search the threads for winter tires. Several members of this board used 16 inch wheels and tires from a CV or GM.

Thx jgc61sr2002, Can all the tires be the same size or do I have to follow stock?

see why there would be any problem w/all the tires being the same profile height. But while we're on the subject of the wheels in the winter, do you guys think that it's absolutely neccessary to put away the stock wheels for the winter, or could this be merely a luxury? I'm not being sarcastic. I believe these are polished aluminum wheels that we have on our cars. Right? So do you think that they would hold up just fine to snow, ice, and road salt? I mean they're not plated or anything. Right? I'm asking a legit question here so please don't misunderstand me. Am I missing something????

Very good question BillyGman! I really don't know if I really need to change the wheels and tires in the winter. One thing I do know is that our polished aluminum wheels have clear coats on them and road salt and sand in the winter time do eat away at them and I would hate to see that happen:(

that's certainly a legitimate answer. I admit I hadn't thought of the clearcoat. And I believe one of those wheels costs a lot more than one tire and a PI rim(that's my guess anyway).....

I used the setup described here:

I must say that I really like the Michelins with the steel rims in winter. It is a huge improvement in traction.

As far as using the stock rims, I do not believe there are any winter tires available to fit them for the Marauder.

If your looking for a set of high performance snow, rain, ice tire you cant go wrong with a set o Bridgestone Blizzak LM-22. Comes in 225/45VR18 with an H speed rating. Keep those rims shining Boys!

Having the exact same tire/diameter front and rear with no problem. I have 26.9" at all 4. The Trac Cont light comes on at 40mph, simply turn swith off. ABS is fine.

I ran my stock tires & wheels last winter. The outside stays fine. The inside section of the wheels don't do so good. I hope you are a seasoned winter driver if you stick with the stock tires in the snow. Lots of excitement having a MM for a skateboard.
