I am considering putting side pipes on my 65 Chevy... is there a way where I can actually run a muffler too?

I'm sure someone will chime in, but what about a quick call to a muffler shop

If your mufflers are farther back than where you would exit the side pipe, you could just curve the pipe back on itself 180 degrees after the muffler then run out the side

most side pipes include glass pack style inserts.
Even an idiot who wants to make fun of muffler shops should know that.
Dom, I like the idea, it's old school cool!

There's three ways I can think of, Dom.
Use a side pipe like the Vette uses with integral mufflers.
Use Lake(s) pipes with cutouts and a Y junction and mufflers
Use Lake(s) pipes with end caps and a Y junction and mufflers. In the old days we called 'em Lakers and the cheap & simple way was with a Y junction to the side pipe, and the other routed through the standard muffler, exiting to the rear. Mechanical cable controlled cutouts can get full of crud and stick open/closed at the most embarrassing moment, so capping the pipe was usually preferred, although a PITA. I never knew anyone to use the Vette ones, because they were very expensive, and there were fitment issues.

Mike, lake pipes are tight!
They were also popular since you could uncork them by removing the blocking plates up front.
There are mufflers with the in and out on the same end that allow you to make a U turn to get to the pipes.

I just see the hidden meaning Ken, and I don't like it.
Call the Man and ask him what's going on like I did. It's not funny.
Can't make Kentucky, but I should be at Carlisle. It's a yearly thing for me.

Soooooo Cool!
The Macungie shows in August, especially Wheels of Time really make for a great time and an education into what Hotrodding was and where its come to and how it comes around again!
I'm hoping Dad and I can get on his 50 Ford.... that'll have Lakes on it for sure!

Lake pipes rule! Also cool, stacks.
Just cut a pair of holes in the front of your box bed and put a pair of polished Kenworth style stacks through it. Then you'll just need a set of those chrome naked lady mudflaps. Keep on truckin! :)

Dom.....I meant, call the muffler shop for ideas, not spend money :D

Wow cool thanks guys. Now I am trying to decide: Should have have side pipes or should I keep the duals and add flame throwers? I could have both, but I think flames coming from the side could get messy.

Side pipes are cool to look at but if you have them under the door your going to burn your legs. Behind the door veritcal and you going to burn a hand.

No matter your likes or dislikes for the things, there was a big flap in Maryland, last year when someone took offense to a fellow's "preference" and kicked up a stink. This led a state legislator to get his picture in the paper announcing his intention to introduce a bill in the MD House, outlawing such obscenities. However, upon learning some of the fine points of the 1st amendment of our United States Constitution, and it's current interpretation by the highest court addressing free speech and expression, he sort of went away.:o
I'd add, "with his tail tucked between his legs" but that would be too corny.
