After numerous burnouts and donuts, the traction-lok finally gave up the ghost and let out a impressive single legged burnout this morning.:(
I have my Summit catalog ready to order up another limited slip diff from Ford racing for $220, but I would like something a bit more resistant to my style of driving.
What do you guys suggest?? Keep in mind, Im keeping the 28 spline axles. Im not ready to plunk down a lot more money for the axles to upgrade to 31 spline especially on a N/A car.

mini spool?
Paul you should do the 31 spline and be done while its apart. You will be happy later on down the road. Spend the money once.
I run a 28 spline and never had a problem. I run an Eaton Posi.
1.58 60' time to boot
Wheel hop breaks axles.
My control arms = no wheel hop

on the MM you will feel the wheel hop right?
i dont think i am making enough power to worry about it yet, but i dont think i have ever felt it on the MM

On my GT Mustang with 372 rwhp I have launched many times at 4 grand with drag radials on the back and the Eaton Dif and Moser axles just keep on working :D

I would like to do the 31 spline swap but the problem is that I'm spread pretty thin as it is to buy the diff and then the new axles on top of it.
I have a friend that can get me discounts on all Ford parts and I have another friend who can install them so this diff swap wont kill me in the in end.
Im just wondering if there are other alternatives that other members have tried with success since I have to replace it as of now.

Please excuse me for my ignorance but what are the advantages of a 31 spline over the stock 28?:o
Tomorrow I'm having my LSD rebuilt using Ford racing 8.8" traction-lok rebuild kit with carbon discs P/N M-4700-C.
Picture and specs found on page 136 of the 2007 Ford racing cataloge.
Cost $115.00.
This kit is made for high torque usage and is found on the 2003-4 and 2007 SVT Mustang Cobra (according to the cataloge)
It was not offered in the 2005 or 2006 FR Cataloge.
The difference in this part compared to stock is striking.

Summit sells the same kit at that price as well. The new diff they offer has this upgrade already installed.

the MM in that vid... it looked like it might be blowing smoke just as he starts the burnout. (that or it was cold out)

Paul,
If the money is tight right now, the parts you have already found are the way to go. The Detroit Locker/31 spline axles is the upgrade you want when the $'s are there!

I also have the Eaton for about a lil more than a year . The pinion bearing just went had to replace bearings and ring n pinion but not the Eaton
28 spline is good up to 500rwhp with no problems.
DETROIT TRUETRAC The best diff for the Marauder hands down.

I've heard that the worm gears in the torque sensing type diffs don't hold up well in sticky tired, heavy sedans that launch hard while drag racing....
I would love to get the Truetrac for the MM, but now I'm not so sure.

I know of only one friend that killed his Truetrac. He has a 03 cobra with 600 rwhp. He replaced it with the same style unit after he destroyed the first one.
Sherman & I have the same setup. He run's Hoosier Quick Time Pro slicks and the tires and I run are M/T ET Streets. His best time is 60 ft. time 1.571 and I have a 1.699 with the old motor setup. These are the facts. Sherman puts down more rubber then anyone I know in the Marauder camp. Part of racing is braking parts. I have changed my rear 3 times in 5 years.

You guys have Detroit Truetracs?!
I guess that they REALLY hook based on your 60 foot times, plus they are the best for road racing.
With the ETs both of you run and the amount of racing that you do, that's all the convincing that I need!
I have an Auburn 31 spline sitting in the basement (it was meant for my 85 GT Mustang), but I think that a Detroit Truetrac is in my future.

What parts tend to break?
What parts tend to break?
several transmission parts- too many to name
one factory motor at 10,000 miles (not raced)
one factory rear, one auburn pro (I didn't like the performance)
replaced worn factory axles.

Thanks, I thought that you were referring to rear end parts only.
MY REAR END IS SERVICED..........
err..........that didn't read right, let me try again.
My Limited slip differential clutch pack in my car's differential was replaced today and works great. Cost of parts was $115.00 and cost of labor, fluids and modifier is $448.00. One day job.
The mech said the gears, all shapes and sizes, were OK just the LSD clutches were fried.

i dont think i am making enough power to worry about it yet,
Yet, is the key word.
Do your upgrades now, and you won't have to worry about it yet or later.
Best thing do both Zack and Johns suggestions.
From the way you drive now, with a supercharger, you are going to need everything you can get. And you will not want to spend the extra money later when you spend it all on a supercharger.
