View Full Version : The weekends "Snow Event"

Our local forcasters are calling for 12"-24" of snow over the next 36 hours.

The last big snow in my back yard was last year around this time.
27 inches over 2 days.

Looking at the radar and making my own guesses, I'll be curious to see if this indeed the case.

I will take a picture every 6 hours over the next two days of this event.

Booya! House bound, fully stocked, and lovin' it!
Love the snow!
:woohoo:

3-7-08 1800 HR = 3" since noon

 Good lord, poor Jesse

BTW, it about this time several years ago, we had 2" of snow, followed by 35" of partly cloudy.
The rotten part of it was, it started on Friday noon and the roads were opened for us to go back to work on Monday. :cheesed:

About 4 years ago we got 7-8" of snow every other day for two weeks, at the end of March. I was building a house then, every time I went out and shoveled the snow off the roof it would snow, (partly cloudy) again that night. Arrrr

While I am not exactly your neighbour, we are expecting here 20 " of snow from now till tomorrow eve. That comes just after the 15" that fell 3 days ago.
So far we received 11 feet of snow since the beginning of this winter.

You seem being interested by the accumulation process. I am more interested by the melting.

He he...I just dig the snow. No pun or back break intended.
That's why we reside where we do correct? Otherwise we would move.:P

Ok this storm SUCKS!

Rather this storm is not cooperative with measuring.
It is so windy that I cannot get a good reading in the open back yard.

I just shoveled 4" added to the 3" we got earlier, yet the stick doesn't show quite 5" yet.

That's ok...it'll pile up tonight hopefully:P

I like snow, unless it's mandatory that i be somewhere.
We've had more snow here this season than in the past 6 or 7 years. One good thing, it's usually gone in about two or three days, except downtown where i work.

Well I had a few too many 'mud-slides' last night and stayed in bed this morning.

Looking outside, I see there is definately something to measure now.

The entire state of Ohio is in the muck of it now, and it is really coming down at a nice clip. Not a soul on the roadways I can see. Roads are covered over completely and traffic other than plows is virtually non-existant.

I'll knock back a coffee, and go measure.;)

SNOW SNOW SNOW and lots of it!!
I measured about 10-13 inches over here in Westlake. That was at about 10 am.

We're moving along now...not at the pace the news suggested, and no where near the normal Nor-Easter would drop, but we're getting there.;)

Well, thank goodness for global warming. Just imagine how much snow you folks would have had without it.

Barry, that photo. It shows the effects of the wind, with the trough(s) at the base of the yard stick, and to the left rear...quartering. That's amazing.

UM, you realize, of course, how dangerous it is to be cooped up, after the abstinence celibacy?

Now we're moving along, 4" in three hours.
The storm is still dumping from the south.
Just wait until tonight when the low wraps around from the north and the lake effect machine starts up.

That's when the totals really start to add up!

19" and still coming down like no tomorrow....

However, it is clear the Nor-Easter has pushed on as my flags are now blowing S - SE meaning this will be over in 10 to 12 hours.

Tomorrows snow scenes should be awesome!

Snow is still falling and wind is blowing (45 mph).
Somehow scary...

It just wasn't cold enough for you guys. Too bad for the snow lovers.

Perhaps next time the Nor-Easter will hook up on the Atlantic side and you will get your share. The last time it did, sometime in the early 70's, we got 40" in Akron.

I remember Mom and I walking 5 blocks to the Acme supermarket because the snow was so deep, and it took so long to clear it off the roads, no one was driving. I was able to walk on top of all, and touch the stop signs. :D

Well, our storm is over.

I just looked outside and I can see stars in the sky.

The tally is about 20".

I'll measure in the morning.

In NY we had a storm like that in the late sixties, 66' or so , and we got about the same, had to take snowmobiles to the store for milk, and bread after 3 days, no school for a week, Kodak in Roch. NY closed for a week, as did Baush, & Lomb. (my parents worked there)

Crestview Heights, Tioga County...about half way between Owego & Binghamton*.
Apalachin was right across the Susquehanna river...remember when all the Mob bosses got busted at a 'BBQ' they held in Apalachin?

We would get a TON of snow back then....born and lived there from 1959-1969.

The sun is out and it is beautifull.

The side streets are a frigin mess, and many are one lane only now.

My final measurement was last night, 19".

I had to use the Aviator to plow our drive, it was just too much for my back.

Pics later. ;)
