Okay I did a search and found that I probably need a 3.2A/1 jacket, driveshaft loop if I run slicks, and a helmet.

Does anyone have any advice on the type of helmet I should get?
The only helmet I've ever used was for a bicycle.:P

You can find a helmet to meet those specs at most good motorcycle shops for a lot less than at the performance shops. MAKE SURE IT MEETS SPECS!!!

You REALLY should get a DS loop regardless, even though the rules don't say you HAVE to. 1) You never know when your friend is gonna show up with some slicks you can borrow. 2) CHEAP safety feature!!!

Helmet must be Snell 2000 or 2005. Jacket is required for all s/c cars. Loop is common sense for everyone.

Correct me if I'm wrong but,

I thought DS loops were required for all SC vehicles.

I already have the loop. Just need to install it. I'll swing by the local motorcycle shop to take a look at the helmets today.

I bought a Snell 2005 helmet for $60 online. http://www.motodirect.com/servlet/Detail?no=397

Nope, based on ET and tires. Otherwise a lot of stock [supercharged] cars couldn't run at the track. Common rules are slicks and quicker than some ET (e.g., 14.00), street tires and quicker than a lower ET (e.g., 13.00). Some tracks require loops with slicks regardless of ET.

Per NHRA "Pat,
A Driveshaft loop is required on all cars running 13.99 or quicker AND utilizing slicks, except vehicles running 11.49 seconds or slower equipped with street tires.

I am probably in the minority on helmets, but I prefer/have an open face helmet. For the type of road course driving school events I do I think it provides the best combination of protection, visibility and cooling for me.

I have a G Force 750 (http://www.saferacer.com/g-force-750-open-face-sa2005-helmet.html?productid=997) helmet.
