I need an alarm for the Marauder now because I fear these people will be back my dad won't gimme my gun until I get my FOID card in the mail.
I'm looking for a tracking unit and something to alert me too.

What should I look into?

I prefer Clifford Alarms. Accessories and features you may want to consider are a shock sensor, tilt-sensor, proximity sensor, battery backup siren, system battery backup, peripheral starter kill, trunk switch, hood switch, horn honk, parking light flash, etc. You should be able to get all of this for under $1K.

GPS tracking is not very useful if you car's inside a chop shop. And, the paging units are way overrated on distance.

Dom,

What good is a gun gonna do??

You weren't around when the Blazer was stolen.....so a gun won't help a thing unless you live in the car.....maybe!!:shake:

Re-think where you are right now and be SMARTER for it!!!:bandit:

Clifford stuff is fine but it's the same thing as Viper just costs more.

Viper 5002 Alarm with
<table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tbody><tr><td class="ProductTaglineBlue">Field Disturbance (Radar) Sensor</td> </tr> <tr> <td class="ProductDescriptionBoldText">Vehicle Intrusion Sensor</td> </tr> <tr> <td class="ProductDescriptionGrayBoldText">(508D)</td></tr></tbody></table>
<table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tbody><tr><td class="ProductTaglineBlue">Glass Break Sensor</td> </tr> <tr> <td class="ProductDescriptionBoldText">Vehicle Glass Sensor</td> </tr> <tr> <td class="ProductDescriptionGrayBoldText">(506T)</td></tr></tbody></table>
<table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tbody><tr><td class="ProductTaglineBlue">Digital Tilt Sensor</td> </tr> <tr> <td class="ProductDescriptionBoldText">Extra Sensory Protection</td> </tr> <tr> <td class="ProductDescriptionGrayBoldText">(507M)</td></tr></tbody></table>
That's the type of setup I would get or get the 5900 unit which is the Remote Starter and alarm unit.

Glass break is negated by the fact that you would have motion detection. Same applies to home alarms. Cliffords and Viper are both manufactured by DEI, but the Clifford line has typically offered more control and monitoring features.

alarms are useless unless you the owner just happens to be around when it goes off... to anyone one else it is just another f-ing car alarm going off... seriously i havent paid attention to one in years have you?

i had a mustang stolen out of my driveway years ago in the middle of the night, a neighbor across the way even saw the people stealing it, they knew they were seen did a huge burn out through his landscaping... guy never says anything... thought it was me! this was 12 hours before I even knew the car was gone.

The kill switch(es) will slow down thieves from stealing your car. Horn honk (or train horn if you have enough of an air tank and battery) is recommended in addition to an unusual siren wail to draw the attention of those who would normally just ignore.

hopefully they will be slowed down enough to get their head blown off by some 00 buck.

Thats exactly what about 60-70% of tow truck drivers drive, my guess is any "Pro" could afford to get one...oh and by the way, ever seen a repo mans truck? They really dont need your keys, any good blank will do...ask Kenny!

Ask "cheeseheadbob" He has a nice system that has a LCD screen on the fob that alerts him to any alarm, and the type. I liked the idea of that. Not sure of the range, but I know they make some pretty elaborate systems.

A 2way alarm is good with a 2 mile range. Also airhorns added is nice, do not get motion sensors put on they r 2 hard 2 adjust. Anything will set them off a dog,cat and even the wind blowning a tree will do it. Viper alarms are good but they cost to much.Do your reserch first. If u live in my area, I could get u 1 for $250. Viper, clifford, clairon, hornet. I have the clairon 2way with airhorns. Every thing i needed 4 the alarm installion came 2 about $500-$600.

I'll tell you from my bad experiences, after getting a top of the line Clifford Solaris, around $1000 with all the extras I wanted, including pager), in my 98 Expedition from these guys I had nothing but troubles, the alarm running down the battery in the truck numerous times and they kept claiming it wasn't the alarm, yet when they replaced the thing after the incident with the semi the battery never went dead again, the anti hijack feature kicked in when it shouldn't have and almost got me creamed by a semi when the Expy died in his lane as I tried pulling across a highway, the alarm never went off when some punk busted out the rear hatch window with a hunk of concrete,(I heard it up on the second floor with the boob tube on in the living room and I was in the dining room on the computer,I ran for the window as soon as I heard it but they were gone, damn alarm never went off),but the SOB would go off ,reset and keep doing it when ever we had a heavy rain or thunderstorm. I think they were installing "reconditioned" alarms with all the trouble I had with the first one and the one they replaced it with. Getting the first replaced took threats of legal action and complaints to BBB. They have a continual turnover of installers and no two of them can figure out the other guys install!
They used to be at the corner of Touhy and McCormick, now they're at Ashland and Wellington. Their name eludes me at the moment, but DON'T GO THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Stay away from them!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think anyone wants their car stolen.
If they want it they can get it.
Lojack is a way to get it back rapidly, usually in good shape.

Agreed. If someone wants your car bad enough, they're going to get it with or without an alarm. Lojack is your best chances of getting it back.

Dom don't you know about Illinois (Chicago) laws? You discharge a firearm here in this city the criminal will have more rights than you. It is a FELONY now! Even if you catch the person in the act you can't unlawfully detain them by a gun. Our Mayor and other politians have pass stricter laws and penalties about the use of guns here. In some other states yes you have that right (Florida & Indiana). Thats what INSURANCE is for, that's what any ATTORNEY here will tell you. Talk to your Ins company and find out for sure how much you Marauder is worth to them, if stolen. An FOID card here means NOTHING this is COOK County and gun violence will not be TOLERATED.

If your father is willing to come see you in prison and put money on your books fine, we need more jobs here. Further I'm surprise your father don't know about gun laws and think that a FOID card carrys weight here. Where ever you truck was stolen from you fire a weapon here, there will be people who will testify you discharged a weapon, and the EXCUSE that you were protecting property (a vehicle and not your life) and have a FOID card won't count for S***! You can't travel within the city (COOK) limits with a gun in a car.

Check with your Ins company to see what your car is worth. Consult with a DEFENSE ATTORNEY to fully understand the consequence of this action.

I have always had good luck with the clifford. I installed car alarms professionally for about 15 years, and always had real good luck with Clifford and Compustar. I just put a Clifford Avante Gaurd on mine. I like the multiple sensors , and I always tie it to the horn. Hopefully it will make the theives move on to a different car. I also like the remote start, that way I get to hear the exhaust!!!

Agreed on the LoJack being the best way.
I'm running a CompuStar with remote start and love it. Add a tilt sensor for towing risks etc and it will at least hopefully scare away a potential thief, but they'll take it no matter whats installed if they want it bad enough...
