I'm posting these pictures for those who have asked about my exhaust. As my signature says, I have Stainless Works Headers, MagnaFlow Spun Cats, Custom 2.5" Midpipes with Crossover, and Borla ProXS Mufflers.

got a sound clip?

I've got videos from the track (I drown out almost every car I run), but unfortunately no sounds clips. I'll try to pull the audio track from one of the videos when I have some free time later this week.

woo, that idle from 9 seconds to 16 seconds was damn near music. Wish I could make that my alarm in the morning or a cell phone ring.

(edit: the sound would now be from 40 -47 seconds)

I love the idle and get tons of compliments on it. My favorite is when they ask whether she's been cam'ed :D (from the cold start lope). I posted the full mp3, so you can hear it.

Missed out on the group buy, bought them afterwards. According to Stainless Works' website, they're currently at about $900. For the gains and sound, I definitely think they're great and if you're interested, it might be worth it to start up another group buy. Just post a feeler thread.

Sounds incredible. Did you have to lift the motor for the passenger side?

Removed the motor mount nuts and jacked up the motor by about an inch. Also had to add some washers on the mount bolts as spacers to ensure the steering wouldn't rub.

Here's the closest I have--a quarter mile run (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/showcase/misc.php?do=downloadfile&i=12298) from inside the car.

Very nice. Just curious, whats your argument for going with H Pipe over X pipe?

After listening to a number of setups, I determined that I liked the H-pipe sound better (though there were several X-pipe setups that sounded good). For most applications, there are only small differences in gains between a well-designed X- and H-pipe, so I didn't feel crossover performance was a worthwhile consideration.

Red, Did you have that H-pipe custom made? I have the stainless works headers (without flanges unfortunately) and plan to do the same set-up... I was just curious if I could purchase and h-pipe or if I have to have someone fab it for me. I was also under the impression that some aftermarket mustang h-pipes will work if extended... Any advice? - Chris

Red,

I opted for the full stainless setup from headers to tips and I can't be happier with the sound.

Damn that sounds like a real car. A lot of the mod motors w/ loud mufflers, do not sound like that. Too loud for me for sure, but it does sound great.

Thanks everyone for the comments! It took a while to figure out exactly what I wanted, but I'm quite happy with the results.

Sorry, I missed this post before. I had the pipe custom made out of 2.5" stainless. It was done at a shop in South Florida that has a mandrel bender. I don't see a problem with getting a Mustang or universal H-pipe to fit, though it may require some chopping and fabrication. If you want to go with aluminized steel, Summit carries universal kits for as cheap as $30 (look at the "Exhaust Crossover Pipes (http://store.summitracing.com/egnsearch.asp?N=115+%2D104210)" part type) and you should be able to find an exhaust shop to do the rest of the fabrication using universal pipes.

Red,
I didn't see you re-use the factory exhaust vibration damper. Thoughts?

Actually, I'm planning to buy the u-bolt damper recently shown here (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=43329) just to see whether it affects anything. There's no noticeable highway drone; however, the setup is definitely loud and certain harmonics under part-throttle acceleration vibrate items in the cab.

Nice sound, not like 50 million Mustangs with Flowmasters. It is similar to the Kooks with Magnaflows. What you gain in the quarter with them?

I gained about 6/10ths (40 HP in my case) between headers, exhaust, intake spacer, and tune on 93 octane. She'll run mid 13's consistently.

Nice, sounds about the same as I got with similar mods. Folks aroynd here don't want to believe it sometimes. IMHO, the best bang for the buck bolt on is exhaust, spacer and custom tune for the package. Way to go Red!

I changed the exhaust clip and put a longer one in. I think he was originally talking about what is now 0:40-0:47. ;) Thanks for the compliment!

Well worth it! The gains, sounds, and attention are great.
