I still miss my first car a 1980 Jaguar XJ6 with a Chevy small block conversion. It was only a 305ci with a quadrajet 4bbl, and had some rust issues and a few too many cable ties and bubblegum holding things together but I learned alot on it and got it lookin' decent and kept it running for years without much cash.

I'd still like to have another one to do a blown LSX V8 conversion on. Someday...

1967 Chevy Camaro I was going to restore... it was in restorable shape but needed alot of work... my dad bought it for me when I was 14 and we were going to restore it together, but I didn't work on it very much due to being in middle school and was doing school work alot as well as mowing 10 lawns a week to make money to put into the car. So my dad sold it to my uncle without me knowing... at least he gave me back the money I had invested in it myself... my uncle wound up kicking the door in with frustration and he sold it as well... maybe it was a blessing in disguise... would have been cool though... I was the only kid in middle school to have a car:beatnik::nworthy:

I would be happy to have any 1 of the 3 back in my posession in the shape that it was in when I sold it. The Trans Am would have needed the most work overall, but would have been a great car.

What a boat! Gotta love them big cars. A friend of mine from "back home" had an Eldo, I think it was a '68 as well, spent a lot of weekends cruising in that car; everywhere from LaCrosse to Milwaukee to the Fox Cities during the mid-70's.

yeahh, my '03 Marauader "first run" 300A it came with a Modular V8 engine with enough power and a long list of amenities enough to put the vans of my youth to shame.

In a time when small 2-door unibody asian go-mobiles were the norm, I went with a big, body on frame, 4 door sedan, (similar to what the police ran) as my college ride and the vehicle that I learned to work under a hood on for the first time.

Spending most all my savings and then scraping for cash for mods and parts looking back . . . oh how she did go.

I only hope that I have a happy ending and that I can hold onto 'er or at least do what this guy (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/02/automobiles/collectibles/02EGO.html?scp=1&sq=mustang+restaurant&st=nyt) did. Long story short he put his mustang out the pasture as a working centerpiece in his restaurant

oh, and for all its faults (Including the brand itself going under), I loved the first 4 wheels I sat behind, a 1990 Plymouth Voyager, family sold it to my uncle a little after the turn of the century and a few weeks later he was T-boned by some ass driving an olds. His family, who were in there too, was fine and the olds didn't have a scratch, but the van had the impression of another car in the sliding door, and since he only payed 900 for it he had it sold for scrap and it was crushed a few weeks later. (Wish I could have had my uncle rip out the Plymouth star emblem on the hood, as I always wanted to do that, and also to have something to remember by)

2. The one I miss the most is the 68 VW. Neglected it and treated it like s--t but it just kept right on driving. Most all my friends in college had one and probably the best word to describe my veedub was that it had "character"

I didn't "believe" in Volkswagens at all until my brother-in-law got a new Beetle in 1968 (Hunter Green with light interior). It was so new that he had the 500 mile service done in Hagerstown enroute from Baltimore to Denver and back during the summer of '68. It only had 2-70 air conditioning and the seats form fit to your body after 8 hours on the road (or maybe it was vice versa) ..... but it ran at a steady 75-80 MPH the whole way out and back (total of 3,340 miles) and gas stops were few.

As to s#x in the backseat of a '68 VW ... Were you dating "Gumby's sister"? ;) I'd need to have instructions or a diagram for assistance there. :rofl:

I didn't think I would miss it..but I've found I miss my '96 T-Bird. It was the "daily driver," but it's not what I really wanted (a Mark VIII at the time). But it was nice, comfy, and ran like a top...until it was t-boned. Love the Mazda 3 I'm driving now that replaced it...but finding I do miss the old bird a bit.

...she had about 181300mi (http://www.elitists.org/tmp/t-bird/IMG_0273.JPG) on it...I bought it w/ about 84k on it in March of '02 and it was hit at the end of Aug. '06. It was burning a little oil and dribbled a little anti-freeze when it was cold from one of the radiator tubs...but it was still a good machine. The damage to the wheel, steering mechanisms, etc. would've cost more to fix than the car was worth so it was totaled.

Had an '81 Regal that I ended up selling that had a built 355 w/ 11:1's and a built TH350, but the rest of the car was stock, heat barely dribbled (as the hacks busted the heater box putting it together initially...this was one of my early cars) and the wipers were on a toggle. It was a fun car. With the stock rear-end, I could hold first gear to about 40 and then snap that shift w/ a wheel chirp. I actually blew a rear-end in that car before replacing it w/ another stock one and selling it off. ;)

I still have my '83 that is waiting to be dismantled, but when I wasn't having vacuum and electrical issues, it was great too. I can't justify working on it anymore though since I have one of my dream cars, '71 Monte Carlo (http://www.elitists.org/cars/monte_carlo/) and of course my '04 Marauder (http://www.elitists.org/cars/marauder/) with about 16K on it (and racing slicks on the rear for some odd reason ;) ). I miss the old cars, but wouldn't trade them for anything I have now (although I do miss the T-Bird in the winter, the T-Bird hands down was a better car to drive in the winter than the Mazda 3 (http://picasaweb.google.com/frank.even/2007Mazda3STouring) even with being front wheel drive and "drive stability control"). Rear-wheel does NOT equal bad winter car...hate people that automatically shoot that off as an argument against the good 'ol rear-wheel vehicles.

Nice Monte SS. That's what I always wanted when I fell in love w/ my Regals. Love those GM G-Body's. You have a nice one there and one that was more than just a run of the mill Monte, GP, Cutlass, or Regal. Unless you are planning on picking up some other classic of some sort or another MM, I'd keep it. You can put practically ANY motor from the GM family you want, and it's not all that bad to get customized drive shafts, etc. Only reason my '83 isn't gone yet is that it's got a built 350 under the hood, a turbo 400 in it and a narrowed 12-bolt out of an older Cutlass underneath it (need to find a spot to strip it). But....I couldn't rationalize building up random 80's vehicles when I got my '71 Monte. The Monte is a car I've always really wanted...and any further time and effort will need to go into that. ;) You've got a nice SS there though that's worth some effort (I think).

Yeah...doesn't surprise me that those of us who like fast boats like the Marauder would like a G-Body too. ;) The G-body's are awesome because you can do almost anything w/ them...and they drive nice, handle pretty well, and are just all around nice and comfy cars. ...and they look sharp too. ;) The G-Body's will always have a soft spot in my heart. I'd always wanted a Monte SS and never got one (got my '71 instead ;) ). That's a beautiful one..put in a trans and a nice 350 and kill the competition. ;) A 700R4 conversion is not at all hard...they even have full blown harnesses for putting one in non-computer controlled. If not still...I have an old issue of "Chevy High Performance" laying around somewhere which had an article about using a 700R4 in an older vehicle (setting up a manual toggle for lock-up if I remember correctly).

Yeah I know.. Ive been sitting on the car for 2 years now with the blown tranny unable to get the money together to fix it.. just hopeing and praying oen day ill come across a tranny for cheap i can use. After the 200r4 blewup in it I had swapped in a supposeably fully built th350 but that lasted all of one summer. something was apparently wrong with it from the beginning and the shop i baught it from went out of buisness of course.. and disapeared..
even with the high mileage the engine still runs mint although could use a carb rebuild for the second time.. the car easy still runs low 14's to 14 flat with a good tranny.. deffinetly wasd a Great first car to own and learn on

heres the mod list i did to it..

TH350 Transmission, Kevlar clutches, needle pin bearings, performance 2<SUP>nd</SUP> gear sprag, Shift Kit and 2600 stall speed converter - clutches welded themselves together in first gear so thats the only gear it has.. no park and no neutral either.. everything is 1st gear..

New-3.73 Posi Rear-
-always used Synthetic oil 10w40
-Full Stainless-steel straight pipe exhaust on Dyno-max super turbo mufflers
- Edelbrock ceramic TES shorty Headers system-

Should be able to still get a reasonably built up TH350 for about $4-500. Sorry to hear you got screwed on that rebuild. That sucks. I've always found finding a good trans guy is difficult...... That just seems too nice a body...esp. if it just needs a trans...to discard.

1973 Dodge Charger, built a 383 (BB mopar) and many 727 autos from scratch, 3.91 gears

1973 Chevy Nova, 350-4 speed

1978 Thunderbird

1997 Buick LeSabre, added KYB GR-2s, upgraded front and rear sway bars, police steel wheels w/ trim rings, custom PCM tuning by Intense Racing

2003 Acura TL type S <-- very fast car. I sold this to buy the MM on a whim. In retrospect, that was not the greatest decision I've made.

Plus I still own the 3 cars in my sig plus a 4th I just bought the other day

I have four that I would love to have back:

1) 2001 Bullitt: I owned #4026 in Dark Highland Green. Other than some interior billet and a Hurst Shifter (with the required white shifter ball), it was basically stock. This car always got compliments wherever it went and was a blast to drive. It sounded like a true 60's musclecar.

2) 1988 Mustang LX 5.0 Coupe (notch): Loved this car! She was white with navy blue interior. She had underdrive pulleys, gears, Borla cat back, King-Cobra clutch, K&N CAI and a Hurst shifter. She would run 13's if you could hook her up. In terms of pure fun, I've yet to drive her equal. She begged to be driven hard all the time. I let her go with 107,000 miles (barely broken in) and I kick myself daily.

3) 1979 Camaro Z28 (Navy Blue): I built the 350 in her and she would fly. Fun car that was enjoyable to drive, however, like all GM products of the era it was put together by Keebler elfs with no attention to fit and finish. I romanticize this car, but I don't miss all the headaches with the body and electrics.

4) 1972 Datsun 240Z (silver with red leather): No power steering, no A/C, just a bare bones sports car with a straight six (dual hitachi carbs) that loved to rev to 6500 rpms. My first car and full of great memories. Like all 240's, she suffered from frame rust and eventually had to be let go of.

I owned a 1970 Dodge Duster 340. I loved that car. Somebody loved it more (they stole it).:bigcry:
Oh, I also later had a 1969 Dodge Dart GT w/383 from the factory i bought to race. I replaced that motor with a warmed over 340. What a dunce I was in those days....
