I have about 2,800 miles on my Marauder, and it has started to "tick" when idling (almost like loose value lifter or rocker arm), it hesitates a little when cold, and the idle is rough (almost like it's missing). The Mercury dealer told me Ford knows about this and is working on it. Is anyone else having any engine problems like this?

Walrod,
I haven't seen or heard of this on any board I frequent... You might want a second dealers opinion on that one...

There are no TSB's on alldata.com regarding that.
I would take 03 Merc's suggestion and call another dealer.

The dealer said the problem is in their OASIS problem-tracking system (SSM 16250), and Ford engineering is working on it. I called a second dealer, and they said they have not had any Marauders in for service, so they hadn't heard anything about it. The guy at the second dealership didn't sound eager to look the problem up for me. I guess we'll see...

Walrod,
I have 800 miles on mine and it hesitates a little when cold, and the idle is rough (almost like it's missing). I use 93 octane in it , I am interested to what you find out from the dealer.

Have you had any overheating problems with the motor? Ford has had problems with cooling of the rear on the left head. If that happens sometimes the head gets soft enough to suck the valve seat into the head. The noise sounds like a lifter but it is the valve..... hope this is not your problem

I also get a hesitation when it is cold. I have 4500 miles on it and I'll take in at 5000. I'll ask about the hesitation and the slow shift to 3rd. Oh yea, and the not engaging reverse.
I have about 4900 mi on mine, and it will hesitate for the first start forward in the morning. After that, it's fine. I do have the ticking of the valves, but not ever having a Ford, I thought that this was normal. It will idle rough sometimes, but not like it is missing or anything like that, just rough. I will address all of my problems with the dealer when I bring it in this month for some paint defects (my list is growing)
Wags.

I have not had any over-heating problems - I scan the guages all the time (habit from the old days), and everything seems normal.
I also have experienced the ticking during idle. 3rd gear sticks at times, and finding reverse gear can be tricky. Other then those problems I love this car.
