This is an aftermarket spoiler isn't it...which is unfortunately drilled into the trunk...still learning about the MM, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, the only factory spoilers are flush with the trunk lid. This is aftermarket.

It could be one of three Spoilers 2 for MMs 1 for the Marquis "I might be wrong"
The Decklid spoiler is a dealer instaled option .There are sites where you can get one
If you want to drill holes in the trunk

Here's a link for the PRODUCT FEATURES for the 03 MM

So the one pictured is drilled to the trunk you think? I'm thinking about buying this car and would prefer no spoiler or the dealer installed decklid spoiler.

Buy the car and a new trunk lid. Simple and easy.

Have a Carfax done and speak to, PM, RoyLPita about an Oasis.

It would have to be drilled into the trunk. The third brake light needs its wiring to run through a hole in the decklid back to its power source. No such thing as a "factory" installed spoiler. It was a "dealer option" you could purchase through the dealer's part department or other Ford parts sources. Many have self-installed it and yes, you need to drill.

Question - What does the red "R" designate?

The most commonly installed dealer option spoiler looks like this:

Sometimes referred to as a "whale tail". :D I had mine installed by the dealer's body shop where I have had many jobs done over the years. I had some other paint work done at the same time to help cut costs. No way would I trust myself to drill holes in my trunklid properly on the first try.

If you look at the trunklid of a crown vic.grand marquis/marauder you will see a slight upswept rise at the trailend end of the trunklid. This spoiler follows that slight incline. Other guys like different types of spoilers. It's your dollars, look at lots of Marauder pictures and decide which you like best. If possible attend meets and see them in person before deciding. My body shop guy thought I was crazy until he saw the finished product.

Question - What does the red "R" designate?

Did some of the Reinhart cars not get an "R" to designate "Reibhart"???

Red "R" of that size is for rice. Sorry...

And a raised spoiler on a large full body sedan....not for me thanks

I self installed my dealer available spoiler. I think it was 4 holes or so. A little nerve racking but easy enough. Key points, there is a template, use a punch to make a dimple so your bit doesn't walk when drilling, and use a metal primer on the inside of the holes to prevent rusting. Put it on and enjoy. I like it a lot.

Well if you were in Maryland you would be used to seeing it all the time:P
Don't mean you have to like it but you'd be used to seeing it:up:

I thought the R in red was the designation for Super Charged.
