ok, so i have a 2000 Crown Victoria Police Interceptor right now. It has the updated PI-Intake manifold, 2004 PI zip tube, a "bored out" PI airbox, throttle body spacer, upgrades to the rear suspension for cornering (don't remember the name but car was upgraded by EVOC instructor before they sold it), and a superchips 1725 tune. Any cheap (and i mean cheap) upgrades i can do to improve the performance any more, or should i just pick up a new one when the dept sells off their latest crop of CVPI's. My dad is the quartermaster for the dept, so i can get quite a deal on a new car. They are selling cars from 2002-2004, so which year would be the best upgrade from my 2000? Thanks mucho guys

Dude,
The '04 Police Interceptors Rock! Not the '03's, not the '05's, but the 2004's. They still have a cable actuated throttle and the "Marauder-style" air box. I would be willing to bet an '04 PI with a 3.27 rear axle ratio will throw down low 15's in the quarter, stock! A 3.55 car will even be faster! That's as fast as a Marauder and it comes with all the heavy-duty gear to boot (Sways, springs, coolers, etc.). Good luck getting a car!

I have a -04 p71 and it's faster then the -03 i had before.
I think a -05 would be even better, new steering wheel, 31 spline axels,
less risk of problems with power steering.
The difference between the -04 p71 and the Marauder is like night and day.
Save your money and get a Marauder!

lol, as nice as it would be to own a Marauder, i can pick up a 04 P71 with around 80,000 for 6 grand. Plus im off to college in the fall so i can't afford (too many :)) unnecessary expenses. On another note, how much in mods would it require to get an 04 P71 to beat up on an 07 Civic Si? One of my friends has the Si and they're suprisingly fast, at least faster than my tired old 2000 :(

No, stay away from the 05's. First year for drive by wire (no throttle cable) and a weaker tune than the 04's. 04 is generally agreed upon as being the best factory tune in a PI along with a 80MM MAF and a freer flowing zip tube. Add a 70MM throttle body, ported stock intake elbow, mufflers and a custom tune by Lonnie or Dennis, you'll be in the mid-high 14's with good traction. Not bad for the lowly SOHC. :burnout:
Stock Civic SI are good for 14.8-15.2 bone stock so with an 04 PI and the above mods you should be about equal. It would be a drivers race.
Well, I've got an '04 P74 with the 'right' mods, and I'm thinking about selling...

what kind of numbers are you turning in? performance wise and mileage wise bc ive got to pilot that beast back and forth between indianapolis and muncie every weekend:)

I couldn't tell you the hard performance numbers as it's never been raced and has never seen a drag-strip.
I used to do mostly highway driving for the first two years I owned her when I was in sales. At that time I was averaging 21 mpg based on about 70% hwy / 30% city. These days, almost all my driving is back & forth to the office (8 miles round-trip) in the city/suburbs; averaging 16 mpg based on about 20% hwy / 80% city.

lol, thats better than the mileage im getting now. i was getting around 12-13 but after i put on the 04 zip tube and messed with the airbox im getting around 15-16. How many miles on it? i can get a pretty sweet deal on an 04 Police Interceptor from my dads dept but im not to clear on the advantages and disadvantages of both the civilian model and P71, anyone have some info on the differences?
My Sport's got 65k on the clock. But you will definitely be able to buy a CVPI at a lower price, especially with your dad's connection.

lol, yea and the price is the large deciding factor. My vic only came with a throttle body spacer and the rear susp. upgrade and it took me around a year of saving and spending to get everything i have on it right now. The only thing i don't like about the P71's from the dept is they all come with 2 holes in the headliner from where the camera was mounted :( but aside from that, ive loved my car (excluding the month that it took me to get a PI-Intake manifold when the old one blew)

Anyone have any other info on the 2004 CVPI's? From what i've heard they are quite beastly (not as nice as a MM of course, but we're not all lucky enough to have one :)) but can anyone offer a comparison between the 2000 and the 2004? i've heard that the 2000 had a funky ECU or tranny tune but i don't know if thats a rumor or what. And another question i have if i keep my car is, how hard would it be to install a tach? Would i be able to get a gauge cluster from a marauder and use the tach and speedo from that or am i up a creek without a paddle?? thanks for all the great advice thus far guys

I'm not sure what the best date is but I have to say.
A friend is looking to upgrade his 98 towncar. I found out he can get a 08 Grand Marquis, same features as his towncar, with 12.5K miles on it for less than the price of an 03 marauder with 4 times the miles.
Something to consider?
