So I got my new black tank on saturday. The thing is a monster. love the car etc etc etc :D
I got the car on the lift and I have kook headers and a magnaflow exhaust system.
Any pros cons?
I am looking at changing the fuel filter and getting a chip and gears before summer.
Thoughts? :coffee:

Definately go with a tune and gears you'll notice a big differance, I wish I could afford the headers right now but I can't so I'm just gonna get some super 44's for now

Kooks and Magnaflows, all pros, no cons. Hopefully you have the Hi-Flow cats, and an "X" pipe under there too. If I were a betting man, I'd say you probably already have a tune. Fuel filter is a good idea. As for the tune, get your butt over to New England Dyno in Douglas (maybe East Douglas). Whether you have a tune or not, they can work it on the dyno for a more "car specific" tune. Tune>chip. unless of course you go with a multiple tune chip. Other cheap go fast products that work: CAI (I reccomend JLT), spacers, intake port and polish, u/d pulleys. If the car already has headers, you may be ahead in this game. Other thing, check and see which gears you have. I'd hate to be the guy who swapped his 4.10's for 4.10's. One more thing, meet me in Epping later this spring when I get home. I'll volunteer to school you for $5 a race.

Paul - thanks for the info! I might see you up there on Friday nights if I can get out of work at a decent time. And I have the smallest Cats I have seen on an exhaust and there is defintely an X pipe.
I use to go up there to watch - I ran my WRX once for a 14.7 stock, good time had by all.
How would check to see if I have a tune and or gears? I posted in another thread but didnt see any sure fire way.

Did you know the car had Kooks on it when you bought it? Where did you purchase it from? As for the tune, not sure on DR's chip, but take off O/D, if you have a Lidio tune, the car will remain in 3rd until you put O/D back on. With O/D on, on the highway, the T/C won't lock until 53mph I believe, and O/D is 63mph.

One revolution of the rear wheel equals either ~ 3 1/2 or 4 revs of the driveshaft. ~3 1/2 = 3.55 ~4 = 4.10 gears. It's a ratio thing....
Just put a chalk mark on the drive shaft, make note of where the air valve is on the wheel..... spin the wheel and count how many times the chalk mark shows itself.

Yea O/D off helps a lot of with the searching for gears. I am pretty sure it does not have a tune due to overall performance. The car lacks punch at the top of the band - only took it to the top twice and for short burst.

What Joe said for checking gears. I would find it hard to believe someone would put a $2ishK exhaust system on without a tune, either prior to or after. See if the dealer will give you the prior owners contact info, or, have him give the prior's your contact info. Check the pullies on the front of the motor. My u/d's have holes through them, I think the stock ones were solid. Different tunes will shift differently, mine nearly mimics stock settings as far as shifting into OD (I think it's 47mph under light throttle). Lacking punch at the top end doesn't mean much regarding if it has a tune or not. Bring it to the track, if it runs14.8 or slower with the headers it needs a tune. The small cats and "X" pipe indicate a complete Kooks Exhaust mod was done.

I check the gears - seems to be 3.55
I spin the tire once and it chalk on the driveshaft shows 3.5 times.
When I move the tire again it shows 4 times. But its only like...an 1/8 more, no where near a half turn.
Is there a more...scientific way?
