View Full Version : Quickest/Fastest Nitrous Marauder?
Whose Marauder is this (http://www.dragtimes.com/Mercury-Marauder-Timeslip-5636.html) (12.284@112.02)?
Who has the quickest/fastest nitrous (no super/turbo-charger) Marauder? Any other mods are fine (including built motor).

I was going to say Barry, until I saw the AODE transmission :loco:

The 4R70W is essentially a renamed AODE with a wider gear ratio.

I don't like it! Put 4R70W, it's that simple lol.

I concede. ;)

Nope, not me.
12.4X best with spray.
I want to say it was one of the Florida guys with an 04, no tune, no sense, and a one fortunate individual to hit that mark with no other investment.
However...I could be completely wrong.:P
....with no other investment.
I'm not so concerned what else they've done (built motor is good by me), just wondering what a spray Marauder is capable of. I was hoping someone's hit the 11's, but then again, I've also been hoping for a turbo Marauder in the 9's :D. Barry, are you planning to stay on spray?

There was an atty out of Bossier City, LA that had a built motor w/ a big shot.
Don't know what happened to him.

I believe that he is a Florida guy that lives in the Sarasota area. He is not on the board and do not remember his name, but I have talked to him frequently at the Bradenton Track and at events. I know that DR has done the tune for him and I am sure that he knows his name. He has some different wheels on his black mm.

The artical shows a lot of internal work, so I wouldn't consider it spray only, granted there is no boost, but, it's not just on spray only.
Also the time slip is dated May, 8 2004.

Not the guy I am thinking of...

Might be this guy's entry on Dragtimes, as the slip was from Red River Raceway. Thanks!

I'm trying to decide whether to go with a built motor and spray and attempting to gather how well others have done with the only requirement being no turbo or supercharger.

Great! Looks like Barry and you are the quickest on stock motors. What other mods did you have at the time?

Unfortunately, I've not run into him before. Has he been out there lately?
Jim Spradling aka jspradi or something like that.

Thanks! Found his screen name: jspradii (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/member.php?u=482).
Jim has an elaborate staged 300 shot nitrous system with a dedicated gasoline tank and pump in the trunk. We have been racing once with Kelley Elmore, AKA Mr. Crabs, at the Red River Raceway.
Jim's car has been dormant for a couple of years but it's back and running.
DR talked to him this week. I'll PM him tomorrow. He is indeed in the deep eleven second bracket. He has a built motor and was trying to introduce a direct port nitrous injection system, much like the fuel injection system. I don't know if he was successful.
Send him a PM he's a very friendly fellow and prolly would like to hear from you since your interested in a nitrous system.

The manual in my Nitrous kit told me how many degrees of timing to pull for each jet. I think it was 0 for 75, 2 for 100 and 4 for 125. Not sure on that though.
I did a 12.9 on a 125 shot with no heater. If I had a heater I am betting it would be around 12.7.

I hope to be the new fastest MM with spray and built engine. Its tore down and I should get it back together really soon. I expect 11.99 out of mine when done, we shall see.:D

red, I believe Barry is out of the NOS game, as I believe he's got a Vortech now, not sure if he's doing spray too though.

Well...I got the Vortec, now I need only convince Jesus to let me keep the NOS as a cooling agent.:P

I'm disappointed... I thought you were a big shot :D

What Mods do you have besides the Oxide?

What caused your motor to grenade?
I'm looking at a 100-125 shot with a 3500 stall converter and 4.10 on slicks or drag radial..should be good for mid 12? watcha think?

That's what I'm hoping for if I spray my stock motor. All I need is the setup and to find a good tuner.

This is correct. I haven't seen him, or heard from him since Marauderville II, in Indianapolis. I recall he also filled the tank of his Marauder with 100LL avgas for airplanes.

I guess the NO2 helped burn oil so it spun a bearing, the fuel pump was maybe not big enough to give enough fuel to engine. A combination of a couple things I guess.

I've not tuned for nitrous and would like a good base tune to start from. BTW, how is the Sniper (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=40715) software working out for you? These guys are close to me and I've been debating buying their software for a while.

The tuning part of the software isn't bad.. the Datalogging I have issues with..
