There are a lot of modified for speeding cars there!

The legislature in my state has filed over 2,000 bills.

In the average persons lifetime 55,000 new laws are passed. Soon it will be easier to tell us what to do rather than what not to do.

Try buying certain over the counter cold medicene w/o a dl, your name and add are recorded.

Perhaps we should consider becoming moles, so that when our enemies over throw the gov't we can restore our Consitution.

The right to assembly, due process and unreasonable search do not exist in this town. Call the ACLU!

Could it be that "sport compact car enthusiasts" is the key phrase here?

In our town, we have a cruise night on the first Saturday night of the month in a large parking lot of a old timey drive in burger joint. This cruise night is populated by old farts (like me?) in lots of old, mostly highly modified and fast cars.

On alternate Saturday night, there is sometimes a gathering of sport compact car guys in the same parking lot.

The entry, the exit, and the behavior of those two groups during the meets is a WHOLE lot different.

Could it be that something similar is going on there?

I think this is related to the strict emission laws that California has. If they started doing this here in NY, There would be over 50% less cars on the road. There are car meets all the time here and nothing is stock. Everyone modifies in some way wheather its something like little bolt-ons to crazy turbo set-ups.
The behavior thing is also comes into play, we had a car show last weekend in Elmont NY. The morning had classic cars and everything was calm, then a bunch of ricers and pimped out S--tboxes rolled in and it turned into burnout contests, donuts, loud music and drag racing in a parking lot where kids are running around. It makes us look bad all around for those who just want to spend the afternoon at the show.

It reminds me of the early 1980's when pleasure boats were being confiscated, sold and used by the very agencies that confiscated them all in the name of curbing importation of illegal drugs.

If your boat did not have the mfg vin on the transom it was confiscated. If your boat was modified, painted or repaired the mfg vin may no longer be visible. Did not matter, confiscated, boat trashed and then you had to go to court to get it back. Older boats did not have a mfg vin, did not mater.

The USCG tried to confiscate my boat. They did not because I climbed out on the outboard w/ a flash light to show them the VIN was there.

Boats that were clearly not in the drug trade were confiscated.

Fortunatley they kept confiscating to the point they confiscated the "wrong" peoples boats and it was put to an end.

Essentially they were trying to intimidate the honest people in to keeping their boats at the dock to catch the "criminals". All they accomplished was ending any and all cooperation from the boating community.

Maybe if they looked at the taxes spent alone and not even consider the commerce or all the employment created by car and bike building, aftermarket parts, junkyards, this could get pretty lengthy here as i keep ramblin they would consider that this industry probably consists of at least 5% or more of their generated revenue and to wake up and realise that yes street racing still exists but only in small numbers and nothing like it used to be. Think about it Arnie your cutting off the very hands that feed your state.

I bet the story told and the story of the meet is different.

I also would think that they did not have permission to meet at the parking lot after store hours.

I would also think that some burn outs were being done and if you have a car on city streets they must meet city street use regulations.

No problem with any of this from my point of view.

I can also think that some of the police actions will be dismissed in court and if anything improper was done in such a raid that some court costs will have an effect on the police doing a similar thing.

I hope you are right because at this point all you have is hope.

I personally saw what the gov't did to boats they confiscated, took ax and chain saw, left all hatches open to rot and fill w/ water. Refused to pay for or be responsible for any damages. Not isolated cases but SOP.

The innocent owners had no choice but to hire attorneys and spend money, time and effort to get back their boats.

Lucky for us we have a law that makes taking your name and drivers liscense number illegal. Places still do it, but then they get into trouble.

it sucks cause it said they are using money from fuel taxes to fund these raids. So basically the people at the car show are investing in getting a ticket. This is total bull**** and i dont understand how they can do this.

I saw the one point earlier about car manufacturers coming out with new and faster cars. They must be part of a street racing group as well...

Maybe they could use the same money for extra man power to patrol the areas where street racing is known to happen. Then they will have a legitamate reason to confiscate cars and hand out tickets. Just a thought.
